Yesterday, I sat down in front of an unfamiliar computer, opened an instance of internet explorer, and headed for Google. As I was typing the URL, IE dutifully displayed the recent google domain url's, and one caught my eye.

Someone had recently used this computer to search for the phrase "jesus christ vampire hunter movie". Intrigued, I brought up the search and took a look:

I was hoping others would share their favorite films in which religious figures (or religion) play unconventional roles. The Power of Christ Impales You!

I don't know if you call him a religious figure, but I've loved "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (1964) ever since I saw it on MST3K. It has Pia Zadora.

I really like the South Park, where Jesus and the Devil have a fight.....

I always got a kick out of the Star Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah," in which James Daly played a man named Flint who was immortal, or nearly so. Flint claimed to have been many people during his life, including Brahms, Da Vinci and Lazarus.

The reference to Lazarus was almost irreverent. The suggestion was that Jesus didn't raise Lazarus from the dead; rather, Lazarus didn't die in the first place, and perhaps Jesus interrupted Lazarus's plan to fake his own death.

The South Park "Jewbilee" episode, with Moses. That was great. Who here uses/d that Moses as an avatar?

There was the South Park episode where the kids go to "Jew Scout" camp and they summon up "Moses" a large energy being who looks like something out of Tron, and the villian imprisons him so that he can conjure up "Hanuman" (who I know is a figure in Jewish folklore so I assume he appears in the old testament somewhere) to oppose him.

"I give to thee the 15... oops... um... 10 Commandments." "Life of Brian" was wonderful. The "quote," of course, is from Mel Brooks's "History of the World, Part I," which also had some excellent bits, including John Hurt as Jesus.

I have a friend who bought Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter just for the hilarious title. He said the movie/musical was awful but was good for a couple laughs.

Ok, you beat me to it. I was going to say Mel Brooks' "History of the World, Part I" and that particular scene is one of my favorites... "I bring you 15...er (crash of the 3rd tablet)... 10! I bring you 10 Commandments!"
