I don't know if the poll is ever going to eb mentioned on the show, but anyway here's the link for the poll, and vote on what you identify with.
to my surprise atheists are winning...
Anyway I didn't know if I should show you people this becuase I guess why atheists are getting so many votes is because this is being spread around only by atheists..
At least they make themselves heard.
Anyway here's the link.

I hesitated to vote because atheism isn't a religion. It's a shame that polls are so poorly worded.

Thanks for the linky! I voted atheist although I regard myself as "agnostic, with extreme prejudice".

Agnostic is a choice, but it's doing as poorly as everything else. With 72%, athiesm is kicking booty of everything else combined.
Just wait. Some religious sites or some commentator on Fox will take note and Christianity will surge...

Why is Jehovah's Witness listed separately? Isn't it a form of Christianity?

I'm an agnostic atheist, but that wasn't a choice, so I voted once for atheist and once for agnostic.

Web polls are definitely reliable. They are certainly not skewed beyond all usefulness by whichever sides mobilize their people the best with message board posts and chain e-mails. :boxedin:

There's nothing in the bible about "spreading the word"? That's a bit of a surprise.

Jehovah Witnesses consider themselves Christians. So do Mormons, fundies, those who talk in tongues, Catholics, and Santaria practitioners. Their invisible savior wasn't clear in his rubric written many years after he died via revelation and ancient memory.

Atheist actually means without a belief in any god. Unless you have a belief in some god, then you are an atheist, by default. An agnostic can be an atheist because an agnostic just means you don't know. You can not know if there is a god while not having a belief in one. It's a silly technicality... and most people think of agnosticim as on the fence.
I sometimes use it when I fear anti-atheism reprisal (and the negativity associated with the label) and I suspect others are similar.

.
people who think that are wrong. Just because lots of people are wrong does not make it right.

True. However, if clarity is important then it helps to use words as others are using them in absence of a definition. Unless one doesn't mind a misinterpretation of course. I choose my words based on my audience and the goal. I am an atheist. I am probably also an agnostic. If I fear reprisal or judgment from the person inquiring as to my beliefs... I choose my words carefully. When people ask me if I believe in god-- (as though it mattered in regards to something), I tend to ask, "which one?" or "why would you ask me that?". Students ask me this on occasion, because religionists have gotten pretty ballsy. (I can't imagine asking or caring about the answer to that question in regards to any of my teachers growing up-- and I don't agree with the correlation people tend to draw between "belief" and moral behavior.)

The quick poll is
Which celebrity needs help the most?
I don't feel that I know any of them well enough to pass comment (but I voted Britney anyway because she used to be quite hot) :D
has the atheist poll been smited by a vengeful god?
[it always makes me smile that there needs to be a disclaimer "this is not a scientific poll" as if people actually need telling that....on second thoughts maybe they do....:(]

I think you've got me pegged pretty well. I think of myself as an agnostic to gods I haven't met yet. After all, I can't disbelieve something I know nothing about. However, I've met most, if not all, of the gods of Earth and I don't believe in any of them.
However, if someone were to define god as a radiating black hole, how could I disagree? Anthropomorphic gods are silly but mysterious bodies that really exist that someone defines as god with no fancy paint are difficult to dispute.

Never met Ra. Can you describe?

well, basically he's the sun.
Well...not really, human shaped blah blah blah...has children and all of that.

Well, then I have met him but in human form and definitely not his kids. Or have I? Memory not to good these days.
I don't think I could believe in Ra as god, then. I've never seen him in human form and, from what I can tell, he's always in his obese sky form. I don't know of any anthropomorphic claims for hiim though, like all loving, all scorching, fruit-eater, etc., but the two-form thing is enough for me to believe he's been debunked.
Sorry, Ra! Keep warm! :D
