OPTICALLY GENERATED WEATHER PROBABILITIES
Per scientific studies performed by amateur astronomers (of course), the duration of the cloud cover/rain/snow is usually a function of the aperture of the objective mirror or lens of newly-purchased optics. The derived formula is as follows:
T = D/10 + 2A +B + U
Where
T = the number of days with clouds, rain, and/or snow
D = the diameter of the objective of the new telescope in millimeters
A = the total number of accessories (except eyepieces) that came with the telescope (i.e., GoTo computer, adapter for camera, etc.)
B = the total number of eyepieces that came with the telescope
U = the time (in days) you spend waiting for the UPS van to show up
NOTE -- the probability of cloudy nights occurring in the U days before your scope arrives is 1/U.
Many occurrences of freak droughts and heatwaves, followed by equally strange floods, have been caused by unsuspecting astronomers ordering an Astro-Physics refractor or a high-end Dob.
