I BTW am a Christian
and I am skeptical of any "visions" of "modern day prophecies" any christians have
I also would think after the Richard Eby incident
christians would take a step back
and start to question these "visions" that folks like Eby and Kim Clement and Bill Yount and Stan Johnson
are claming to have
considering a lot of people
who claimed to have visions in the christian community
have been widely exposed as frauds since the time when these visions
were to happen come to past and these visions never happen.

Well, some on that list were multiple, but yes, there have been many more, including some on these forums. Apparently they didn't know how to set up a website though.

things have be fine upchurch. switched from pepsi to sprite as my drink of choice though Livewire is also good too.
I am also trying to lose weight. Want to go from 216 pounds to 195 pounds.
Hopefully I wont slouch this winter and decide not to excercise cause last winter's weather caused me to sorta slouch on my diet and thus why I am back around 215 pounds.
I also plan to go see Mr. bean's vacation on Labor Day weekend.
Seen the Simpsons movie and Hot Fuzz (gotta keep reminding myself to get that movie on DVD next time I am at Best Buy)
and Smokin Aces and Shrek the 3rd and Transformers and Disturbia
and Hairspray (saw it cause it Amanda Bynes and Christopher Walken in it) this year.
all good movies BTW if anyone wanted to know of any good movies that have come out this year.

Sex-- do it for the kids!
In regards to this rapture thingy-- can you imagine how the average I.Q. of the world would raise if all the fundies were swept away? What blisss!
And Leon Festinger's book on the subject of doomsday prophesies (When Prophesy Fails) shows that these types only get MORE faithful... because the suffering of humiliation makes them feel even MORE like it's true... just like hazing increases allegiance to a fraternity. Hmm... if they really truly believed, they ought to give away their money and possession to atheists who will no doubt "be left behind"-- after all, it's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven... besides, Jesus endorsed this himself.
How else do you prove your faith?

If only! The perfect scenario is that all the holy action heroes descend from the heavens and pick up after themselves. Jebus taking his sorry crew and leaving behind all the other flavors of fundamentalists would be only half the benefit. Can you imagine only having to work for advancing society without the need to stave off the ignorant just to stay where you were? Be still, my heart!

Yup. Why are they always the slowest drivers on the road? The ones who argue the longest at the pharmacy counter? Don't tell me they don't want to go to heaven! Instinct is a bitch when you try to believe in the supernatural.
How else do you prove your faith?
I'll make a list but I doubt they'd go for my ideas! :eye-poppi

That would suck, wouldn't it, if the Rapture was like Interview With The Vampire, where your form was fixed, permanently, as it was when you en-vampireified.
Lose some weight, get your teeth fixed, clean your toenails, lest you be a fat pig for all eternity, even with your wonderful soul.
Although, Billie, if you truly believe the rapture is about to occur, could you send me all your shortly-to-be-worthless money? Also, if you have a big-screen HDTV, can I have that too, since you won't need it?

Regardless, just because they believe Bush will be the last President doesn't mean they're right. all those other predictions Tricky pointed out had their signs and portents, too. I'm sure they were just as certain.

Well, given my height and frame, my "ideal body weight (http://www.healthdiscovery.net/links/calculators/ideal_bw_men.htm)" is just under 180 lbs. I don't know that I really plan to go that low, but I would like to maybe another 15 lbs.

If you really want mess-up a bible thumpers day, when they start with the rapture nonsense just look em very seriously in the eye and say “what are you talking about, the rapture happen last year (last week, last summer, in 2004, what ever) you missed it dude, I guess you aren’t a real christain! Just for a second you’ll see a look on their face that will be priceless.

Note the explosion over the Middle East and Jesus uses Todd Beamer's infamous "Let's Roll" line from the Flight 93 hijacking.
Yup, just like the bible-humping right to use their immoral war in Iraq and the tragedy of 9-11 for to help support their bigotry-fueled delusions.

I've been lurking over at Rapture Ready a lot lately (for entertainment purposes only).
You get this tremendous sense of absolute desperation that this "blessed event" occur ASAP.
I think it's to such a degree that ANYTHING that re-enforces their belief is seen as credible
evidence.
Everytime there's some disaster in the world--whether it be man-made or from natural causes--you get this "Hoo boy--this could be it baby---we're going home----yipeee---50,000 dead in an earthquake. "
People are actually excited & happy over events that cause much suffering because they think it's the beginning of their deliverance from an existance here that they are clearly not happy with.
Sometimes it's funny---but sometimes it's really depressing to think people have to go through life like this.

Thank you for the most succinct summary I've yet read of what I believe to be the real cause of most "rapture-mania."
Of course let's not forget the other underlying reason for all this glee at the thought of approaching armegeddon..
NOW--they are finally going to get to see the atheists(and everybody else that made fun of them) subjected to some good ole-fashioned hellfire & brimstone type suffering.
If there's a hell and god wants to punish a fundy----don't put them in hell.
Put them in heaven---but they will NEVER be allowed to watch the atheists getting tortured.
No sitting around in that big heavenly amphitheatre with their buddys and a bowl of popcorn for them.
That will be their hell.
