Saw this on a bumper sticker, and just wondered what reaction it brings to people.

I see it as a very distasteful way of trying to get a laugh. And I don't really find it funny at all.

I assume the person that has this on their truck doesn't actually believe it would be a solution to either the homeless, or the hunger problems in the world, but intended it to be funny.

So, what was the first reaction you had when you saw the title?

My reaction is that this was a modern day, sound byte version of Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal"

I thought "what a great idea!" but then I realized there might be too much work involved to get such a program into place.

Well, if we could find some out of work butchers.....

I hadn't thought about that. Wasn't too long ago that I was enlightened about JS's Proposal (interest was fired by a thread on these boards somewhere).

Good point!

I found it a bit stupid, isn't homeless people often hungry people too?

They are conditions that tend to go together.

Well, many of them have been internally marinating themselves for years..

OK, so maybe the wines they use aren't the best. But still, that should help, don't ya think?

Aren't the homeless hungry, then? And if so, should they eat themselves?

That's more Sweeny Todd. I'd suggest Soylent Green.

That's tasteless and disgusting and horrible. Sick.

If the hungry must eat, there are plenty of unwanted, unadopted cats and dogs around. And unadoptable children, for that matter. And what actually happens to aborted fetuses, anyway? And let's face it, the dead are a source of protein.

What would be the best part? Biceps? Calves? Thighs? Myself, I vote for buttocks.

Probably does not matter if it's served in Meat Pies A La Mrs. Lovett.

Would not work. Everyone needs to eat their fruit and veg as well. The people who eat humans would also tend to build up poisons in their body such as heavy metal. Not to mention disease.

No, sell the homeless to the top restaurants as exotic food.

It brings the same thought the song"Kill The Poor" by the Dead Kennedys (http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/dead+kennedys/kill+the+poor_20038160.html)brings to me.

I suggest they try Whirled Peas.

I thought it was fairly funny...somewhat tasteless, but funny. I don't have too many problems with tasteless humor.
