He claimed he was teaching his daughters how to act like a proper wife for their future husbands.

He is eligible for parole in four years; his wife and church remain supportive.

No mention if they support the rights and well being of the victims.

That's the only part I wonder about. People of all stripes will be evil, but I wonder what the fundie community will do towards the girls.

Judge Lovell gave full credit for the man's guilty pleas, saying he was genuinely remorseful and had a good chance of rehabilitation as his wife and the church remained supportive.

Does this make any sense? He used his religion to justify abusing his family. Therefore, the fact that his wife and church support him (What does that mean exactly!) is cause to believe he feels remorse? Is this what you do when you can't claim to find Jesus (since you claim to have already found him)?

And how does this wife support him? Did she not know this was going on? Does she feel any guilt?

Disgusting people those believers, just disgusting.

The court heard that the man had sex with his daughters for nearly a decade from 1991 when they were aged 13 and 15 at the family property.

Apparently it takes quite a lot of training to become a good wife.

He must not think his own wife is a good wife.
Otherwise, she could have taught the children.
Oh wait, it's a fundy church; women have no place to teach or speak I guess.

I assume his name is withheld to protect the daughters' identities, and prevent his house from being egged on a daily basis.

Yes, that would be the only reason to withhold his name.
Maybe, if prison in Australia is anything like the States, the inmates will find out.

Methinks he read the story of Lot and took it a bit too literally. I am trying to work in a joke about his wife standing by like a pillar of salt, but it just isn't scanning.

OK, this is disgusting, and the guy should be horse whipped. If I had a horse, I'd whip him.

But I have two questions.

1) What's a paddock?

2) What's a ute?

Google indicates they are a 19th century Bishop, and an American Indian Tribe. Neither seem like a place you would take your daughters to abuse them. But you silly Australians.. Who know? ;)

I suspect he'll have a lot more "hands on" experience about what it's like to be a good wife by the time he gets out of prison.

Paddock = horse corral.
Ute = in New Jersey, it's youth. Only other definition I know is the Indian tribe.

A paddock is what you foreign types would probably call a field.

A ute is a pick-up truck. (Ford F-Series etc.)

IIRC the article doesn't say how this was discovered. Did one of the (now)women tell authorities?

This is just making me sick. I hope there is a hell, or prison will be near enough to it.

We Aussies don't drink Fosters, we only use it as a rat poison, and to export to gullible foreigners.

He claimed he was teaching his daughters how to act like a proper wife for their future husbands. The same excuse that most abusive fathers use. Funny how they don't try to teach anybody else's daughters, just their own. And funny how they only teach the daughters about sex, never things like cookery and housework and all the other stuff that every good wife needs to know.

In regards to the daughters/victims in this situation:

A friend of mine told me that what messed up her mind the most about having sex with her Dad (starting at age 14) was that after a while, she started physically enjoying it. So not only did she have to deal with the shame and moral misery of engaging in incest, she then had severe guilt about enjoying sex. She said she thought her head was going to explode at times.

The experience markedly affected her ability to have a normal sexual relationship as a young woman.

Quavergirl: I've heard about that before, though I don't know anyone personally who has had to suffer it.

Fascinating, disturbing and unfortunate. The mind says one thing, but is unable to control the reaction of the body that says something completely different.

So Fosters is the polar opposite of Guiness then? Everyone I've talked to who's been to Ireland says that the Guiness is WAY better there.

I've heard that also.

I didn't know you were in New Zealand. :p

How can you speak of those things in public? Polite people do not talk of such matters. Plooking your daughters is one thing, teaching them to [Rule 10] and [Rule 2] are quite another. If you keep up this vile language, I'll have to ask that you be taken out back and shot, stabbed and dragged through a pit of broken glass.

For the uninitated into my little sense of humor, that last bit was written from the POV of a guy who would "train his daughters to be a good wyffe" by having sex with them.

There must be a plague of it at the moment, we've just had a case where a young girl was thrown in cells for refusing to testify against her father who'd been raping her. (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/topic/story.cfm?c_id=146&objectid=10459918)

He's got off with no jail time at all.

I think there's a poster on this forum who would understand that precisely, she has said the same thing - enjoying it physically while being mentally repulsed. It must be an ugly configuration to try to deal with.

As a father of a young daughter I tried to find my own emotion to the OP, but the best I could come up was shivering in disgust. It doesn't surprise me that fundmentalists (or at least some of them) could behave like this, because the Bible could be used to justify incest (and I'm thinking about Lot in particular, who for some reason in the New Testament was described as "a preacher of righteousness")

By no means even a majority of fundamentalists would behave like this with a case of incest in their midst. I know some who would be genuinely appalled.

But no, I'm not calling it a truck, I was simply using the term to explain what a ute is to an American.

Very true. As an ex-pat (and beer connoisseur) living in the states, I can tell you the Fosters here in the states tastes like Crownies. I would be very very shocked if they don't use the same recipe, in fact.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Lot. How could a man be too drunk to recognize his daughters but still be able to get it up, one wonders. And does the Bible teach us that drunkness is a legitimate excuse for sin?

When I first read 'on the back of a ute' I pictured some kind of animal like a horse. It doesn't appear in my dictionary.

QExactly the same thing happened to a woman I knew, whose Dad "taught" her and her sisters. Not only could she never really enjoy sex, but her whole psychology was warped - she was really messed up. She drank and couldn't cope with her kids, so they grew up messed up as well. Talk about the sins of the father.....
