But it is the Bushies' dream of a model kitchen in Iraq, rather than a Saddam-Qaeda link, that makes this war seem noble to them. That's why they were so busy hawking the Osama tape, rather than coming up with ways we can protect ourselves from the coming Osama attacks — other than with plastic and duct tape.

Dont poo poo the power of duct tape!!!
Am I the only one embarrassed by this silly alert system. They have a constant "Orange Alert" graphic on Fox News.
Are other contries laughing at how we handle terror threats in the US??

What's crazy is I read a study a while back that proved that duct tape, while good for many things, is worthless for ducts.
My personal experience is consistent with these findings.

This is true. You should get the aluminium metallic tape for that.
It's not hard to imagine that future generations will look back on this period with the same hilarity with which we view the Cold War Red Scare Duck and Cover period.
Maybe they could call it "Duck Tape and Cover".

You can seal up the zippers on the hazmat suits with it.

And duct tape formed an integral part of the Apollo space program.

Gotta disagree Plutarck. I find Duck Tape to have an inferior adhesive compared to Duct Tape. Of course that's just my opinion, but I'll venture I've used more of it than you.

Why in my day they didn't even have Duck Tape. And we liked it!

Duct tape sales rise amid terror fears
From Jeanne Meserve

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Americans have apparently heeded the U.S. government's advice to prepare for terror attacks, emptying hardware store shelves of duct tape.
On Tuesday, less than 24 hours after U.S. Fire Administrator David Paulison described a list of useful items, stores in the greater Washington, D.C. area reported a surge in sales of plastic sheeting, duct tape, and other emergency items.

Knew I should have bought some of their stock.

Come to think of it, there'd be a great way for the government to make some extra money without having to raise taxes: Product Placement. Hey if TV can do it, they can do it.
I for one wouldn't mind if at the end of the state of the union there was a crawl such as "The President's apparel provided by..."

Feb. 13 — A key piece of the information leading to recent terror alerts was fabricated, according to two senior law enforcement officials in Washington and New York.

When I first heard about the recommendation for getting duct tape, I thought for sure it was a publicity stunt by North America's number 1 consumer of The Handyman's Secret Weapon, Red Green.

That's what I call ambitious entrepreneurship: first sell the stufff needed for chemical weapons to Saddam and then provide the world with a simple defense system :D
Now if you'll excuse me, gotta go to the hardware store and buy an orange light bulb.

Need advice on how to prepare for a terrorist attack? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3923949.stm)
THere is a link to a pdf file called "Emergency Booklet".
AS far as I can tell there is no reference to duct tape anywhere in the pamphlet, rendering the pamphlet useless.:D
