I didn't laugh at that. I've been to sensitivity training.

The dictatorship of the proletariat means exactly what it says: the power of the working class cannot be challenged by the capitalists. Dictatorship of the proletariat is the perfect democracy for all decisions and all power is made by the workers. Power flows upward from the democratically elected worker's committees at the factory floor, to popular committees elected in each city block.

I'm being self effacing and perhaps not doing a very good job of it. I grew up a religious conservative, farm boy from the heartland. Patriotic to the core, a regular Tom Tuttle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090274/).

See, I've moved to the left in recent years. I'm currently campaigning for Obama. Though I still find such humor funny from a conservative perspective. So, I chant my communist indoctrination to....

You know what? You can't explain humor (especially bad humor). Never mind.

So, I chant my communist indoctrination to....Oh, so you're were droning some Marxist rhetoric in an attempt to sound like what you think a commie sounds like. Funny. I thought you had just accidentally pasted in something... Or lost your mind.

You can't explain humor (especially bad humor). You managed quite well, actually. Enjoy your reward (http://folk.ntnu.no/makarov/temporary_url_20060919zkkfg/internationale-en-billy_bragg_1990.mp3).

Of course, there's always the Whitiker Chambers testimony.

You managed quite well, actually. Enjoy your reward (http://folk.ntnu.no/makarov/temporary_url_20060919zkkfg/internationale-en-billy_bragg_1990.mp3). Thank you... comrade?

I thought you were funnier than 'Bros before Hoes,' which is clearly a bourgeois sort of humour, lacking a proper appeal to revolutionary sensibilities. :D

I don't get it. I can't get my mind around the thought of Hillary Clinton being a whore. As for Obama, if you heard him speak before seeing what he looked like, you'd think he was whiter than John Kerry ....

Obama is so white, he has his 401k plan bookmarked on his blackberry and checks it often.

I laughed because I thought it was being ironic.

Then I realized it probably wasn't.

Then I was sad...

I don't get it. I can't get my mind around the thought of Hillary Clinton being a whore. I think the point is that Hillary has stuck it out with a philanderer because in the long run it would be better for her politically. The notion being that she sold out for power and prestige.

I don't know if it is true but given the number of affairs the guy has had it's not outside the realm of possibility.

Caveat: I didn't vote for him but I have said countless times that my life was pretty damn good under Bill. From a personal standpoint I don't have any complaints. Perhaps that makes me a whore.

One last thing, anyone interested read No One Left To Lie To by Hitchens (it's online here (http://books.google.com/books?id=VGSztGHC914C&dq=&pg=PP1&ots=SpRH2UQJA1&sig=uX2Q5rfHC9V111si6VpltSDlBOQ&prev=http://www.google.com/search%3Fq%3Dno%2Bone%2Bleft%2Bto%2Blie%2Bto%26rls %3Dcom.microsoft:en-us%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26startIndex%3D%26startPage%3D1&sa=X&oi=print&ct=title#PPA32,M1)). Before you diss the book read All too Human by George Stephanopoulos.

I think Randfan might be reading too into it. Also, in the interest of making this funny: I do believe we would have a joke if it were Bill Clinton on the shirt. Then we have a joke about Bill Clinton's infidelity and a joke at how many think Hillary supporters secretly want Bill back.

I think Randfan might be reading too into it.How? The joke is on me? {sheesh} It's true, you can't explain humor.

ETA: Do you mean my point to Monoxide? I think you would have to place reading too much into it on him, doncha think?

That was the quote that I think is dissecting the shirt a bit too deeply.

That was the quote that I think is dissecting the shirt a bit too deeply.Like I said, I think you need to take that up with Monoxide. He was the one who couldn't get his head around the idea of Hillary being a whore. Perhaps you could explain it to him and make it funny for him. As for me there was no such problem. I got what they meant. You?

If there's one thing we JREF posters do is read too much into something or over-analyze something that in reality is quite simple.

Charlie (Hillary != hoe Bill = hoe) Monoxide

PS I heard a quick news item where Hillary was asked if Bill could be her running mate (and this VP). She responded that he already researched that and it's not constitionally feasible ...

"The dictatorship of the proletariat" is a direct quote of Marx.

In Canada, where I haven't been following the candidates' races, so I don't know the background, if any, behind the t-shirt. Are you saying I shouldn't have an outsider's reaction to it?

It see nothing more than a poopy joke. "Ha ha, I called a black man a Bro and a woman a Hoe! ROFLMAO!!!!"

If you want to give some background on why the shirt is actually funny, go ahead, make me laugh. (An oblique marxist quote didn't work for me, or anyone else it seems.)

No, of course not. I simply want to know where you got your assumptions. I don't think that I could have been anymore clear.

It see nothing more than a poopy joke. "Ha ha, I called a black man a Bro and a woman a Hoe! ROFLMAO!!!!" You are certainly entitled to an opinion. It's not the case but I doubt you care about the truth.

If you want to give some background on why the shirt is actually funny, go ahead, make me laugh. (An oblique marxist quote didn't work for me, or anyone else it seems.) (a) actually it did (see above) and (b) the T-Shirt is satire based on popular American culture (you had to be there).

It goes back to Don Imus' remark about a basket ball team being called nappy headed hoes. It has to do with Hillary Clinton's philandering husband and her being accused of selling out. It's about the significance of Obama's race in the election.

Whether or not you laugh is entirely irrelevant. I don't give a damn if you think it is funny or not.

"We" is the royal we, as in "I". It's more common north of the border (I guess you have to be there).

I don't know what assumptions you're talking about, but yes, I did tell you where I get my assumptions.

You say I'm up in arms, I say you're over-reacting. I'm calling the whole thing off.

Odd, I got it from a Marxist web site.

"The dictatorship of the proletariat" is a direct quote of Marx.

Are you an expert?Oh it's all just in the arrangement of some selected words, for me.

No, I'm no expert on Marxism at all. However I have been reading the news reports of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il since the mid 70's for the sheer fun of it (yep, I'm a weird dude!). And from my limited experiences, Marxists worth their salt don't usually trot out Marx text verbatim to explain or support their views.

But loco-in-the-coconut pseudo-Marxist dictatorships like the North Koreans do. Repeatedly. Even tragic earthquakes and fatal chemical spills get portrayed as "proletariat victories over the running-dog capitalist bourgeoisie". Nothing at all to do with the concepts of Marxism at all. They have merely borrowed the words.

As for the NK Kims, they have both eyes swivelling in one socket, a gun in their hands, and a super-cushy dictatorship to protect. So any "Marxism" involved is merely a wallpapering, and a thin and tatty one at that.
