Just wondering. How did you do it (self-study a class etc) and do you think it helped you marketability?

There's lots more to it than just a course. In order to write the exam, you must show a history of actual project minutes worked for experience. I think it certainly would be worthwhile. However, you have to be able to show something like 4500 hours of previous project experience, in order to write the exam.

Not an insignificant hurdle by any means, especially if your project work wasn't really documented with proper Scopes of Work and Project plans and Work Breakdown Structures that would let you show how many hours experience you have.

Think of it more as a senior level certification for people that already have experience being project managers.

I have no idea what you mean by "write the exam" but I found all that and more - how depressing. I thought it was just take the damn test.

Here's what I found:

Prerequisites for PMP Exam

- A Bachelor’s or “global equivalent university degree”
- At least 4,500 hours of project management experience (this must be supported by lengthy forms verifying the number of hours.)
- Three years of project management experience within the past 6 years
- Thirty-five credit hours of project management education covering subjects like project quality, scope, time, human resources, communications, risk, procurement, and integration management

How the f(reakin rule 8) are you supposed to be able to "document" 4500 hrs of "PM experience?"

"Write the exam" means to "take the exam". Canadians, maybe others, use that phrase.
