Chaser TV team detained over APEC stunt
Eleven crew from the ABC TV comedy show The Chaser have been detained by police after staging a fake motorcade through Sydney as part of an APEC week stunt.

The team from the satirical TV program The Chaser's War on Everything were in a convoy of three cars and two motorbikes which was reportedly ushered through two checkpoints in Sydney's APEC security "red" zone.

The convoy was pulled over in Macquarie Street on a block adjacent to the InterContinental Hotel, where US President George W Bush is a guest during the APEC summit.
...

Chaser members said they had dressed up a convoy to look like an official Canadian motorcade, on a day during which a number of official motorcades crossed the city.

Southern Cross Broadcasting reported that the convoy carrying the Chaser team passed "through two checkpoints around the hotel before one of The Chaser pranksters jumped out (dressed) as Osama Bin Laden".
...

The Southern Cross Broadcasting report said "security services went crazy when they realised something had gone wrong".

"They very quickly detained these people," a reporter said.

...

So is this kind of thing worth it? Did they show up holes in security, or did they show how good the security is? Opinions...

So is this kind of thing worth it? Did they show up holes in security, or did they show how good the security is?In terms of prevention of comedy crime, the security has clearly been exposed as a joke.

Well yes I spose, no one was actually arrested until after OBL jumped out of the car. It really could have been anyone inside.

It's just a joke. NSW has had plenty of time to prepare for this comedy assault, and yet they have completely failed in their serious duty of preventing these clowns.

Despite their arrest, The Chaser managed to get their footage back to the studio.Daily Telegraph story (http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,22372814-5001021,00.html)

I'm guessing the folks at the first two checkpoints won't be getting bonuses this year ;)

Haha...gotta love the Chaser boys. This may well be the most ***** theyve landed in yet, but hell if it isn't funny.

Though also a bit scary, considering they passed through TWO checkpoints with Chaz dressed up as OBL...security should be beefed up now (and I've got to get to rehearsals tomorrow in the heart of Sydney!).

Would have been even funnier if they had stayed in the cars and got out WITHOUT being detected. Then asked the police how easy would it be to do? Of course the answer would be very hard. Then shown the entire footage on TV. But no, one of them had to jump out the car and say 'arrest me.'

They have just shown them going through to the red zone. They did not show much that was not shown before (see links above). The rest was plain comedy. I was hoping for some new revelations.
