View Full Version : Osama's invitation to Islam (celebrity edition)

I want to keep this separate from the more general threads on Osama's latest communique, to focus on one aspect of it -- the closing invitation to Islam.
It is the one point on which it is possible to be certain he is sincere and not just posturing or otherwise saying what he expects will exacerbate divisions among his enemies.
Will there be a number of unexpected celebrity conversions, do you suppose?

I disagree that it's where he's most sincere. I think this is what Paul would have called heaping coals of fire on your enemies' heads.
His target audience is not the West, I would maintain, but an Islamic audience. He's issuing the gospel call to the mourner's bench as a purity ritual for himself. He's offered the way of salvation to us piously and now our blood is on our own hands.
The sick freak.

Yeah, it's really odd that Osama's knowledge of US politics and sociology seems about as deep as Fox News'.

I remember a lot of peoples' reaction to seeing bin Laden's face all over the TV after 9/11. I kept hearing remarks like, "I can't believe he's a terrorist. Look at his face, his eyes...he just looks so calm and kind".
That's because he has a clear conscience. He really believes that what he is doing is the perfectly just and right thing to do.
So, regarding OBL's call for the West to convert to Islam: Who knows. Maybe he really is delusional enough to believe it could happen.

The "fun" part is that the "sick freaks" over here will seriously think he's talking to us, instead of to his own people. Then, they will issue their own "sick" pronouncements.
Here's a place where we can point out how we're doomed to fail in any idiotic "war on terror": our leaders don't seem to have the first clue about what terrorism and terrorists are all about, so they play into the terrorists' hands every single time.

This bunch of terrorists is apparently all about their BFF George W. Bush, and their shared goals and dreams.

Oh, OK, so you don't know what terrorists are all about.

Well, let's see... do you think that they plan to destroy America, because they hate our freedoms? Do you think that Saddam Hussein was a big OBL supporter?
Or, are you living in the real world, where OBL shares Bush's goal of attacking Iran?

Please rephrase that question into an intelligent enquiry.

"Terrorists" in general?
Or Osama's outfit?
First things first. About getting the world's most uppity infidels to back down a bit. Then we can worry about the rest of the program.
If you're sick of war already (and who isn't), just stop being infidels and everything will be all right.
Right?

All we need are a few celebrity conversions to get things rolling ...
Call the New York Post ...

"Will there be a number of unexpected celebrity conversions, do you suppose?"Not unless those celebrities are willing to see their careers end, or they are desperate for publicity.

Knowing that the King of Plop is now a Moslem tells me two things:
1) Islam is desperate for new members.
2) There is no depth so low that Michael Jackson won't sink to it.

I remember a comedy sketch where the JWs knock on Micheal Jackson's door and politely ask him to go join some other religion.

I heard on the radio this morning (WLS-AM Chicago) that Britney's comeback performance in Las Vegas was not well received.

good question. I can give you the Lenin definition, but other than that I don't really know all that much about them

This needs to be said...
Britney who?
(Yeah, I know who she is ... or was ... but this topic needed someone to point out the obvious, and that is that Ms. Spears is a washed-up, wrung-out has-been.)

I haven't had the stomach to watch the tape, but I heard about this on NPR and savored the nauseating irony of this "invitation" coming from the man who probably has single-handedly done more to prevent conversions to Islam in America than any other person in the history of the world.

Not quite as bad as Ashley Simpson's Saturday Night Live appreance, but right up there in embarassing fiascos.
Only interesting thing in that trainwreck of a show was Shia Laboeuf leaking the name of the New Indy Jones Film.

Presupposes that conversion must always be a rational process based on self-interest.

Would you agree that many such conversions are often motivated by the incentive of an afterlife with 72 virgins and a goat?

In the west, I'd say nil.
The appeal is the disciplined lifestyle, and depending on perception of the war, admiration for a winner (as being on God's side) and toughness generally.
Also probably some amount of rebelliousness against existing authority, without rejecting the idea of submission to authority.
