Driven by Fossett's fame and Google search technology that enables couch potatoes to view from their computers high-resolution photographs of the rugged Nevada landscape where he went missing, thousands of amateur volunteers are trying to help the hundreds of official searchers.

Have I missed the latest in live-update-technology or is this as stupid as driving your car out of your garage and checking Google Earth to try and see it standing on your driveway?

Actually the satellite company that Google gets it's images from is supplying new photographs taken since the crash. There are so many photographs to look at they are enlisting the help of the public.
