I stumbled across this website the other night. Today I decided to give to what I believe is the perfect cause.

https://www.familiesofseptember11.org/default.aspx

Families of September 11, Inc. (FOS11) is a nonprofit organization founded in October 2001 by families of those who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Membership is open to anyone affected by the events of September 11, be they family members, survivors, responders, or others as well as those who support our mission. The group has two goals:

To support families and children by offering updated information on issues of interest, access to resources, relevant articles, and advocacy to raise awareness about the effects of terrorism and public trauma.
To champion domestic and international policies that respond to the threat of terrorism including support for the 9/11 Commission Recommendations, and to reach out to victims of terror worldwide.

Above all, it calls 'Our Mission'

To raise awareness about the effects of terrorism and public trauma

Isn't that exactly what many of us have been doing some time now, and many of you for some years now? It's a perfect way to dip into your pocket and shell out a little cash for something I, at least, believe is a good end to all this debunking lark.

It helps get the solid, sad, upsetting, but accurate, important and unforgettable truth out there, but not just from an Internet Forum.

It's not much, but it feels good. It would be nice to see how much we could raise.

This appears to be a legitimate and worthy cause. I'll support it.

It's good to know it wishes to advocate the findings of the Commission report.

It seems to be, as far as I can tell (and I looked at many of the links there) admirably woo-free and dedicated to actually helping people, rather than advancing a political agenda.

Unfortunately, they appear to be professional do-gooders, with the emphasis on "professional".

Their financial statement indicates that in their last audited year, their contribution to their "programs" is pretty small.

The hidden pineapples in their expenses are "consulting fees" and "website development".

Any foundation or non-profit that raises 500,000 and only puts 11% of that into its programs is, IMHO, in the "business" of fund-raising. The principals and advisors also seem to have a preponderance of fundraisers.

More than 40% of what they raised was spent on salaries.
There are other minor anomalies in there, too.

(I'm still looking for a fund to contribute to - as per discussions in a previous thread. I always check out the financial statements if they're available.*)

*If they're not available, give nothing!
