What is "Hooters"?
A restaurant where the waitresses wear tight shirts and tight shorts. If you click the link, you can see some of them wearing the outfit. It's famous (here in the States, at least) for its chicken wings, and controversy.

Thank you for the explanation - I also looked it up in the meantime... :boxedin:

Nice, but rather boring. What was the controversy about?

In China, probably nothing. When I lived in CT, our town council ***** a bisket when Hooters started the process to open one of their restaurants there.
It was insanely funny to watch the dowagers and ******* foam at the mouth.

I actually already started another thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=93190)about this last week; I'm living in Beijing, and the Hooters restaurant is actually about a 15 minute walk from my home. The other thread has pics of the Beijing Hooters girls.

Remember when wacko feminists forced Hooters to have male waiters which no one wanted.

I was about to proclaim "We don't have one in communist UK!" but I seem to be wrong (http://www.hooters-uk.com/index.php). Doesn't seem to say where it actually is though, unless it's in Nottingham. Not aware of one in Londinium.

In the US, it's usually about a woman who wasn't hired because she doesn't fit the name.

That's plenty to be sexually controversial in this sexually oppressed puritain nation. Pathetic, eh?

One of our local Hooters (yes, we have a couple) wanted to move from one location in the city they're in, to another one closer to the main thoroughfare; to do it, they'd also have to transfer the liquor license as well. The council, though, said, "No". Why? Because they consider Hooters to be a 'bad influence' and "has clientele we don't want in our city!" The council figured that if they refused the license transfer, the restaurant would shut down & move out.
However, Hooters sued for $1,000,000; the suit was on again/off again, while the council debated the ramifications of it all. Finally, the restaurant just opened up at the new location, and kept the other one (with the liquor license) open. Now, they had two, instead of none!
Eventually, they got it straightened out; the new one got the license, the old one closed, and the council still complains sometimes.
Of course, it doesn't help that the main road exchange is East Big Beaver...

There was some talk of opening a franchise here in my locale. Some research revealed that the community didn't meet the Hooters minimum requirements in terms of population density. What's weird is that despite the fact that I had no desire to ever visit it if it had opened, I was disappointed we wouldn't be getting one.

When was this? I doubt that would have held up in court.
