I had marked my calendar to check up on Shelby Corbitt's 2007 summer rapture prophecy. I had first heard about her in February or March this year and had emailed her then about what to expect of herself at the end of summer. She says in her blog now that she never reads the offensive emails, that those are deleted by her faithful staff members, yet earlier she indicated she is aware of the existence of previous ones, so maybe she had read mine.
I said that her ecstasy would build up greater as summer approached and it did as she began to predict things like financial disasters, wars, and natural castastrophes, but towards the end of summer, she would begin to waffle. She made the mistake of setting her prediction within a certain time frame - June 21 to Sept. 21. By the first day of June, you see her first tendency to fudge a little. On July 1, she declares that there must first be obvious and noticeable miracles before this rapture, but as Fall drew closer, she never mentions it again. In late August, she waffles the dates, but firmly states:
The rapture WILL BE THIS YEAR before we close our pool down for the winter, that I KNOW!!
By mid-September, she mentions the negative emails and further waffles her entire prophecy by saying that SHE interpreted the dates, that God did not give her those dates, but continues to maintain that 2007 is the year. She makes a few denials that she is a false prophet(ess) and reminds one and all that her book was not written to make money, that it is online for free, and that all of the "gift" money she has received has been plowed back into her ministry, whatever that means.
Well, even though God gave her two extra days of summer this year (Sept 23, not the 21st), all those rapture ready folks are still here with us heathen. Shelby maintains that her family will still be in the pool swimming the day before the rapture and that it will be this year. I would email her to advise enclosing the pool and installing a heater, but since those are deleted from her eyesight, I won't bother.
An old friend of mine wrote the book 5/5/2000 and maintained a website with a countdown clock on it. When the date came and went, he kept the clock up for a number of months, pathetically showing plus signs now instead of the minus signs, until he took down the whole site.
Anyway, check her blog. It's fairly short, and I predict it will not be there after this year.
