Anyone recommend a good broadband optimizer? You know the kind that sets your MTU size and then tests the transfer rate against a reference file, and then sets it again?

I used to use broadband wizard, but never registered and now I can't use it anymore.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Broadband optimizers that change your MTU are usually not worth the time or effort. Changing your MTU on a modem connection used to make a _slight_ difference because the MTU was set to the ethernet default on most windows PCs.

Seriously, don't expect a real speed boost from a broadband "optimizer". If you don't believe me, I have some ginseng drinks you may enjoy at a good price.

Thanks for the help everybody....

Good point Corplinx...perhaps it's placebo but I did manage to get 5-10% increase, based on old test files using broadband wizard and my cable modem.

In the meantime...my DSL actually appears to have gotten faster. (just over time, I haven't used an optimizer yet.) I don't know, do the techs at the DSL place adjust your connection or what?

All I know is when I first got it, was about as fast as single channel ISDN. Now it's real close to my old cable speed, at least as I perceive it to be. I used to be able to pull down a one meg file from my server in six seconds. now it takes eight...so that's pretty good.
