That is what my nephew said to me the other night.

He came to this conclusion from talking to a couple people at work. Found out one girl was raised as an atheist, and was curious as to what the whole religion thing was about. Another person piped in that he was the opposit. He was raised religious but turned atheist when he realized it was a load of nonsence.

My nephew said it felt good knowing he was not alone. He's 17 btw

Yes, I am an atheist and I am becoming more popular.

It surprises me how popular atheism is without the commercialism you see in all the other religions... Hey, anyone got their Carl Sagan Bobblehead Doll? I got mine!

Yes, atheism is becoming more popular. I sort of look at it like deism during the 18th century; the position amongst intellectuals to accompany a new scientific/technological age.

It's that last step that is ever-clensing: No guilt, no devil, no hell.

Most of my peers are either fundie, deists, or atheists. Fortunately the former's population has been dwindeling, but the majority of people are deists, or agnostics.

Dude....screw that. These people aren't real atheists, I was an atheist back in the early 80's you know....before it was trendy.

Atheism was cool, before it got all popular, now it's like totally sold out dude.

Come into the light (of reason).. come into the liiighht.. :D

At the end of TAM last year there was one woman there arguing for christianity, in the middle of a bunch of deists, agnostics, and atheists. Very nice lady, I suggested she read Secret Origins of the Bible, which I had recently finnished. That is enough to convince any reasonable person that the bible is just a load of rehashed mythology badly edited togeather. Wonder if that woman will be there next year, and if she read the book.

Are you saying that to be an atheist is to be without guilt?

I'd agree to a certain extent. There are lots of stoopid things that I won't feel guilty about, like not keeping holy the sabbath day. But I also feel a bit more pressure to get it right in this world, because there is no evidence that there is a next one to counterbalance. An atheist should feel just as guilty about wronging others.

I certainly hope atheists get more popular. It's very, very tough to be in the heavily frowned upon minority here in Alabama. I wouldn't say I was persecuted, but I sure am solicited a lot.

I feel sorry for racial minorities, that they have to go through this their whole lives. At least I can hide my differences.

I don't know if atheism is becoming more popular, but it's more talked about than it used to be. If it *is* becoming more popular, that's not a bad thing :D

Kenicke, I feel for you. I think it's tough to be an atheist anywhere in the South. It was tough on my husband when we were living in NC.
