The Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2007 has been announced.
"for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change"
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. in a split (50/50) award.
ETA: Someone beat me to the punch in the science forum, but I still think it needs to be noted here in current events, so I'm leaving it :)

But what has he achieved? (And what did he achieve when VP?)
Good for him, anyway, he's been pounding the environmental drum for a couple of decades, so you could call this his other life's work, besides being a professional politician.
A win for the USA in the Nobel, in any case.

Agreed :)
I haven't seen the film, so I can't comment on it's quality, or lack there of. He is a bit of a "Home Boy" though, we've both spent a lot of time in middle Tennessee. So I guess I'm obliged to be proud for him, even if I don't always agree with his politics. ;)

I don't know.
I tried google to find out, but didn't see anything about 9/11.
From checking out a few of the links that google did give I've learned that among his daughters (he has 3 I think) they have:
Written several books. One of them seems to have quite a sense of humor, and leans toward comedy, while another wrote (co-wrote?)a book (may have been a documentary) about global warming (surprise!;))
One married, and served some rare sea bass (http://guntotingliberal.com/?p=1674) at the reception, or something.
One has been mentioned as a possible political candidate (http://archives.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/04/04/karenna.gore/index.html).
I only went 6 or 8 pages deep into the links, and most were on the wedding and more politics related stuff. But I didn't see anything that looked like it might pertain to 9/11.
