Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel Disses Bush (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/09/international/middleeast/09CND-MILI.html?ex=1063771200&en=e4e0fc948acbbf34&ei=506 2&partner=GOOGLE)
The criticism by Mr. Levin and other Democrats was not surprising. But some Republicans were beginning to join in it today, with Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska complaining that the administration had done "a miserable job of planning the post-Saddam Iraq."
"They treated many in the Congress, most of the Congress, like a nuisance," Mr. Hagel said in an interview on the CBS "Early Show" this morning. Mr. Hagel is not a member of the Armed Services Committee.

I cannot say that I am surprised because the last time Wolfowitz showed up to talk about Iraq (March, 2003) he said that there oil revenue would be enough to finance the costs of reconstruction.
Now, they are finding out something completely different.

I think he's understandably reluctant to knock a fellow Republican, but this is a case where a binary thinker has a problem - either one person or the other must be evil. I suppose this will simply be proof that Hagel isn't a "loyal Republican".
No offense Nie but you DO tend to think in terms of either/or.

I have great respect for polticians who question party leadership. They are under no obligation to fall under party lines. Theres a name for people who go along in order to benefit the greater whole. COMMUNISTS!!! Our Congress is filled wh a bunch of commie puppets who do as they are told, even if its somthing they dont believe in. The 2 party system is an affront to democracy.

Oh. But come on now, you know they didn't make this up.
I didnt say they "made it up". The NYTimes is an extreme liberal news source. If you read it with no sense of its thick bias, you're a moron or a con artist.
Assuming it's true, what do you think?
unlike democrats and most "liberals", republicans and conservative usually have the ability to disagree with one another in public instead of running a scripted performance of groupthink.
I think the reformation of Iraq for Iraqis is going to take time, much debate, and more strength against all those who dont want peace and would rather play out their extremist and political fantasies.
he's intitled to say what he wants, but that doesnt mean his perspective isnt flawed.

ER, NTW do you have any idea of how Federal Budget Appropriations are done?
If not, I will attempt to give you a brief outline of the process. Note: for those who are familiar with this process then you may want to skip the two below paragraphs and go straight to paragraph six.
Now then, the president (no matter who he is) cannot simply go on TV and say that he wants money for this, that, and the other, then expect to have a check in hand by the end of the next business day.
Instead, the congress has to approve the funds before such a check is written. And since congressional approval is needed, that means that the president has to send his representatives and experts to congress in order to meet with the people who have the power to vote 'yes' or 'no' on the funding issue in order to answer any questions they may have, assuage their concerns, and persuade them to vote in the affirmative.
So, unless the hearings involve classified material (and at present, this one does not) then they are open to the public and everything said there is a public matter (an official transcript will be placed into the record). Thus, it does not really matter which news source is providing the quotes because all of the quotes will contain the exact same data since it all comes from the exact same source.
I hope that is clear now!

Oil revenue??? More like "oil theft".
Can you believe that Bush actually sold Congress on taking the oil of the country they conquered and using it to offset the cost of the invasion? And then, they miscalculated the take from their theft and it is still going to cost them big bucks!!!
No, I'm so glad Bush isn't flying by the seat of his pants on Iraq. What a clown! By comparison, NTW is looking better every day!

Here's some of that "international support":
Brushed Off by the World, Bush Calls India for Help (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A47812-2003Sep9.html)
From Asia to Europe to Africa, President Bush's televised appeal Sunday night for international help in rebuilding Iraq drew as much scorn as sympathy in the online media. Only a response in India offers encouragement to an administration scrambling to regain its war footing.
US admits failure in Iraq (http://www.brunei-online.com/bb/mon/sep8w25.htm)
US President George W. Bush was set Sunday to announce a shift on Iraq policy calling in greater UN help as his Defence Secretary admitted the failure to wipe out Saddam loyalists may have sparked the security nightmare.
Hoon commits 1200 troops as Bush plea falls on deaf ears (http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/archive/9-9-19103-0-26-38.html)
THE appeal by George W Bush for more nations to help shoulder the burden and expense of rebuilding Iraq drew an embarrassingly muted response across the globe yesterday.
By the way, NTW, that's Geoff Hoon, not Shannon Hoon.

Dear Trinken eine Bierre,
What? How about Jepson's criticisms. Can they also be used to strengthen the situation, or are they only "stupid games"?
I want to see just who is playing "stupid games" and who is actually trying to "strengthen the situation".
I think I know your answer..... but let me put it this way. Let us suppose that each of the following people were to state the same criticism....
Which would be "strengthening the situation" and which would be "playing games" if they said "I'm afraid I have to conclude that we did not have all the information on the table when we should have." (some may not be alive any more, but please classify them accordingly anyhow)
Your choices are:
Jesse Helms
Jesse Jackson
Barry Goldwater
Millicent Fenwick
Ted Kennedy
Al Sharpton
Pat Robertson
Al Gore
Shemp
Jedi Knight
----
Please indicate which of those you would regard as being constructive and which of those you would not regard as being constructive for the example statement given above.
Please do not evade or avoid this question, I think the answers would be enlightening to us all.

after that statement is made by anyone on your list, if they arent interested in doing anything more than wasting energy on "I told you it was a bad idea" rhetoric for their own political stature (when a murdering dictatorship is now gone and a begining to rational peace in the region could possibly be achieved) it's a game.
It wasnt a flawless operation, but for what it is, it's an extremely better environment for the world now that one less psycho is out of power in a region such as that.
you pals will just keep debating for the sake of filibuster and votes, caring nothing for the direction of world events. Debate is good if it can correct flaws and defeat the hostile environment there, otherwise it's simply pretentious imho.

Therefore, I am going to assume good motives all around, and that it was just a kind of funny typo mistake.

Could it be that linking directly to the picture itself activates a booby-trap designed to stop people using the site's bandwidth, and replacing the picture you linked to with something altogether less acceptable?
This has happened before. A forum member tried to link to a perfectly innocent movie-poster spoof, but when his post hit the forum, it contained a vulgar piece of pornography emblazond with a comment about bandwidth-stealing instead. I PMed him to let him know and he removed it straight away, so the moderators might not be aware this happened.

Some webmasters, when they discover that a link has been posted directly to an image on their site, will replace the image filename with something crude. Usually they just draw up an image of text saying "THIS LAME M-FER IS TOO LAZY TO USE HIS OWN IMAGES" or something like that, but replacing it with porn (or, worse, something from rotten.com) isn't difficult. You may well have posted the correct link, but what the link pointed to changed.

as usualy you can bullsh** about the stupid caveman picture as if that was what you originally posted. Upchurch saw it and yet I'm sure he'll simply "forget" what he saw in order to satisfy the clique.
this is also another great example of how the clique here can get away with anything.
NTW,
Please post a list of those individuals who have gotten away with rules violations due to my favoratism. Please indicate the act that was a violation, and that in similar situations I acted against those who are not my favorites. This will be a tad difficult for you, as much of what I do I do privately, but as you are so strong in your statement, I ask that you back it with evidence.

I'm guessing that you're defining "clique" as anyone who finds you to be a boorish moron?
Anyway, before you go on a rampage how "The System is keepin' you down"(tm), may I point out that a great many contrarians, like yourself, post here all the time and aren't repromanded or banned. You have pretty much free rain to post whatever garbage you choose (as you've shown) within certain guidlines of school kid level appropriateness. Shemp, while he is no less inflamitory, has never, to my knowledge, crossed that line before. Hal investigated and decided that it was, indeed, possible that it was an honest mistake.
As much as you would like it to be, this has nothing to do with you, NTW. And, unfortunately, no one is out to get you because your opinions differ from many on this board. Get over yourself.

Unfortunately, you are unable to distingush an honest mistake from your paranoid fantasies that everyone is deranged and against you. Perhaps some medication and daily coffee enemas would help? Pull yourself away from your mommy's breast long enough to seek help.

At the risk of once again calling down the wrath of God upon myself, I will point out once more that it is almost exclusively people on the far right that flip out like this.

Shemp posted a pic of a transvestite with it's c**k hanging out.
Upchurch saw it and so did others here. Somehow Shimp pretends not to see what everyone else saw and it's okay.
I'm not saying that you support the clique here Hal, I'm saying that the clique gangs up on anyone here that says what they don't like and in this case committed a major violation of the forum rules. This is the same clique that moans about kicking me off the forum for my ideas, yet can post pics of naked transvestites and it's no big deal.
supposedly Shimp wanted to post a picture of cavemen. Right. Sure. I'm more inclined to believe that he wanted to offend and then cover his arse.
in any case, I just want to state my opinion.
nothing to see here.

I dont think everyone here is against me, you just keep saying that. I honesty think you knew exactly what you were posting and then covered your arse.
there is a clique here, it's obvious, but if I was so "paranoid" about it then I would just leave. I'm just aware of all the bashing I get for even posting simple threads here. ANY post I make immediately gets 1 star regardless of its content....it's highschool again.

I did the bashing in highschool and Im now a "reformed cool guy" who knows clique tactics when I see them. Shouldn't you be off somewhere in a padded room babbling to yourself about the government ? You must be on break at the ward.

Incidently, that's one instance of possible favoritism, or in you words how "the clique" "always gets away with everything". Any others?
This is the same clique that moans about kicking me off the forum for my ideasIncidently, I don't think anyone wants you banned, per se, and certainly not for your ideas. I, and others I'm sure, would like to see you leave because you're a jerk. Totally different thing from banning you because of your opinions.

And the picture was immediately *removed* and I sent shemp a formal warning, demanding an explanation. I even went so far as to check my log of who I have warned, to see if this was a second warning, or possibly a suspension issue. It was quickly apparent that it was just a mistake.
If this is your example, if this is your 'list' of my playing favorites, I ask that you withdraw your charge above. If not, provide the evidence.

This thread started out about Hagel and Bush, and somehow it got to be all about how everyone hates Nie. Do you see the problem here, Nie? You're just like Lord Kenneth; if it's not about you, then it's not worth discussing. At least he's just a little kid. What's your excuse?

Wow! Nobody sent the memo about the 'Secret Shemp Clique'! Gee whiz, why do I always have to find out about these things in this way?
Oh well, maybe it is time that I doubled the membership rolls in the 'Double Secret Crossbow Clique' by adding one more member in order to find out these sorts of things sooner.

Even though Shemp was totally innocent in this situation, I think it's important that we continue to attack him and treat him poorly. He is, after all, he who would replace Curly.

me admitting that I didn't like some of my attitude in highschool is "big-noting" ?

I didnt call you out Hal. I was refering to the clique, not any favortism on your part. I was concerned about shimp getting away with a lie within the clique, not about your involvement.
Im done with the topic.

The picture I mentioned earlier, which was DEFINITELY substituded for the legitimate pic by the webmaster of the site that hosted it, was also of a semi-naked transvestite. Sounds to me like exactly the same picture was used in exactly the same circumstances. Is that so difficult to believe?

Note the word "them". FYI, NTW, the word "them" refers to people in plural. Not one person, people.
So it should be clear to any normal person (which excludes you) that the picture that follows would have more than one person in it.
The picture to which the webmaster (that dink!) redirect you showed ONE person. Which supports my contention that I didn't intentionally post the pornographic picture.
As for "cliques," I need no others. I am a clique of one.
