This time it's the Cornell Sun that gets blasted with the stupidity ray gun.

Truthers seem to like writing letter to the editors of college papers.

Perhaps because no one reads them.

Fabulous debate going on in the comments.

"Karen" really has a knack for long debunked arguments.

I'd venture it's because they have a better chance of getting published.. might be an anarchist or two on the editorial board.

Many college newspapers don't seem to understand that the first amendment does not require a newspaper to print every letter or ad submitted, that's why they are the target of may holocaust denial ads.

I'm "Skeptic" in the comments.

I'm a Cornell grad student, so I was much disgusted to see this appear in the paper.

I see twoofers are still too scared to try their luck in a scientific journal.

That and remembering my own days on a College paper (and I doubt things have changed much in this regard except for the advent of on line bulletin boards ) College editors will print almost ANYTHING that will cause a controversy or upset the administration. They think it is a way to booste their readership beyond the Sports section.
You also have the obssession with being "fair" to every point of view, which often causes College editors to print wackjob letters and ignore the more mainstream points of view.
The acceptance of ads that most real world papers would reject is another facet of this...that and the fact that most college papers are eternally hard up for funds..the school provides only a portion of what it costs to operate.

What is really scary is this guy claims to be a member of the staff of a Physics department. He seems willing to forget everything he learned,if his claim is true,in order to promote conspiracy theories.

I beleive that he is just a technician for the physics department, whatever that is.

He certainly is not a professor.

Getting your letter to the editor published is the easiest thing in the world. Don't do it online. Take out an actual piece of paper, slop your bizarre screed onto it, and mail it in. You're almost guaranteed to be published. Much fun can be had in this way. "Bob" knows I did it many a time as a bored teenager when I lived in the towns of Itchy Dingleberry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perryton) and Infected Hemorrhoid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarillo).
