Apparently, the LA branch of the CT movement has a demonstration on the 11th of every month. Anyone in this area want to show up and counter them with our own pamphlets?
We wouldn't need a lot, just about 50 one-page pamphlets explaining our position and giving links to debunking literature. It would cost, what, 15 bucks tops for the whole day? And we get to tell people the truth? Sounds pretty fun to me.
If you're interested in participating, I can be reached here or at psi_scraper@yahoo.com.
I hope there's at least a few people on here who would like to join me, as there are quite a few nuts in this city and showing up alone wouldn't be very effective

Hmm, I've never seen them.
Do they protest in the same location every time or do they move about from month to month?
I'd join you, but I have to work on that day next month.

The Toronto truthers do the same.
I debated them at their June and July events but haven't bothered since then, seeing how only 10-12 of them ever show up and they get ignored by 99.9% who pass by.

Los Angeles, millions of people. If 10% of LA are truthers, then they should have at least 1,000 people.
I expect 20 to show up.

To be honest, people are so delusional in LA/Hollywood that I wouldn't be surprised if the twoofers came with pink hair and green suspenders with a sign saying "911 was an inside job...and put my in your movie!!"

That's a Sunday. I should be free that day.
I'm in. I live in Studio City. Got any info about location and time?
Also, it would be a good idea to coordinate getting a stock of handouts/pamphlets etc. printed up.

At that rate they'll have the entire (Canadian) population converted in the year 3522!

Maybe they'll tag along on the next illegal immigrant protest so they can inflate their numbers by a 20,000 percent.

I'm still a newbie and can't post links until I get to 15 posts. Google 911 truth la, here's a quote:
<quote> Meet fellow truth activists for march down the 3rd street promenade. Meet on the bluffs overlooking the Santa Monica Pier at Ocean and Colorado Blvds. at 11 AM. We will march down 3rd St, make noise and hand out DVDs and flyers. This will be a major event for S. California. Bring your friends. </Quote>
I agree, we should coordinate our printouts and such, though we shouldn't need much; I don't know how big their events are, and am really getting a feel for what I'm dealing with as I've only met 2 truthers in person.

I will be out of town that week, so I'm out. Too bad, since I live in Venice. By the way,11am? It is the slowest part of the day there! Now...say 2-5, that is rush hour. Typical, twoofer planning!

I think the 11AM is because many Veteran Day's ceremonies happen at 11 Am because 11 AM on Nov 11,1918 is when the Armistice took effect to end World War One,and Veteran's day was orginally Armistice day (the name was changed after World War 2). They are trying to cash in on the Veteren's day ceremony, just like they try to cash in on anything. I would like to see them actually go up to a Veteran's group and try to push their "9/11 Was An Inside Job" crap, though.

I've been looking over the 911 truth LA site to try to get a feel for what their pet claims are. It looks to me like they're the same old set of nonsense- the WTC Towers were a controlled demolition, no 757 hit the Pentagon, remote-control parts and an A3 engine were found at the Pentagon... you get the drift.
Right now I'm looking around the site where Gravy's work is collected to see if there's anything suitable to burn to disc and take to a Kinko's and print up. Unfortunately, good analysis tends to take up a lot more space than simply rattling off a list of claims.
Since these guys also seem to be Griffin fans, it might not be a bad idea to have a few copies of R. Mackey's fisking of Griffin and Gumboot's "Distortions of Fact" on hand as well.
I'll PM you with my thoughts about materials this weekend.

Sounds reasonable. If you need an easy to spot outdoor meetup beacon I can bring my mirror ball hat: http://forums.randi.org/imagehosting/37847218b1bf10df.jpg

Been doing a little thinking, and I thunk of something:
Any anti-CT pamphlet or flyer should include this xkcd comic (http://xkcd.com/258/).
And it appears that doing so wouldn't be a copyright problem under the terms of the Creative Commons license Randall Munroe applies to his comic:
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 License.
This means that you are free to copy and reuse any of my drawings (noncommercially) as long as you tell people where they're from.
That is, you don't need my permission to post these pictures on your website (and hotlinking with <img> is fine), just include a link back to this page. Or you can make Livejournal icons from them, but -- if possible -- put xkcd.com in the comment field. You're also welcome to use my drawings in not-for-profit publications (with attribution). If you want to use them in a commercial publication, or you're not sure whether your use is noncommercial, feel free to email me and ask.

It's one of the most concise statements of why the conspiracist mode of thought doesn't work I've ever seen, and it's funny- just the right thing to leaven a dry list of CTs and refutations and help make them stick in the memory of a reader.
