I'd like to know if anyone here has ever seen a story in the press that they personally knew something about that the press got 100% right.

I grew up in a small town, and the local paper never got a single story right that I knew the facts about. They even screwed up my dad's obituary with half a dozen substantive errors. Now I live in Dallas, and the same holds true; I have never seen a story that I knew about first-hand that wasn't wrong, sometimes wildly wrong.

Has anyone with first-hand knowledge ever seen the press get it RIGHT?

The short answer is "no."

It used to be that they could at least get the facts right on local, non-political news, and while they might get most of the facts they PRESENT right, what you have to remember is that today, the vast majority of local and national "news" media is openly and unapologetically left-advocacy.

Where I live, this includes "neglecting" to mention for example when telling a crime story, that the suspect(s) is an illegal alien. It includes stuff like the garden writer reminding us of ways to protect our tomatoes from normal weather, but throwing in "as the climate warms," every three sentences...just before telling us we'll have early frost this year....

You can't escape this in the mainstream, dinosaur media. Which is why you need to stop supporting that media.

In the case of trade publications, which is to say magazines and the like geared towards specific occupations, you have higher quality writing and reporting... of course their subjects are highly specialized, and frequently the reporters used to work in whatever area they cover, so they would presumably have some expertise.
But in a national paper of TV network... there probably are things that are right, but not having the expertise necessary, I can't speak to all of them. In general, and particularly with science reporting, I find them lacking. Sometimes severely.
