There have been several topics started on them (1 or 2 of them by me). There is much more substance to the Bilderbergs than most conspiracy theories. They're pretty big.. just seach for them on Google and try to sort through the other nonsense you'll encounter while reading about them.

Where are you?
Now that you know the name and that the group exists, we must have you killed....

The Bilderberg group is a meeting of blue-bloods and highly esteemed people whose actual influence may or may not be far reaching; members lists include people like the president of Macy's and Coca-Cola, a few banks, a few university provosts, a few mid-level government officials, etc. They meet only once a year at a predetermined place, for a weekend, using one day to discuss whatever they feel like without having to worry about reporters twisting and replaying their words all over the world, and the second day to play golf typically. Every so often they invite guests (a couple of years ago, Dan Rather was a guest; Clinton was a guest once when he was a Lt. Governor - he was never invited back for some odd reason). The name "Bilderberg" comes from the first hotel they met at, in Switzerland or some place. The attendees list, while not actually "published", is not private or protected.

Reason I asked is that even though I have been a sceptic for some years I have been living with the delusion that the crackpots are always somewhere else and the sensible people around me would never fall for that. Now I have found out that if I bring up the subject scepticism one person after another says they have discovered something paranormal or something to that effect. It's one thing to read these forums and quite another to confront your friends about something. Now this woman told me about the "Bilderberg group" and I thought she was joking but no, she would bring evidence tomorrow (friday) that would convince me of the reality of this conspiracy.
So if someone could spare me a second I would appreciate it. If there is a compiled list on conspiracy theories I would like a link or webpage name please. Smartypants remarks as above isn't helping. Thanks.

It's funny that I never noticed it before, but the co-signer on my quarterly "World Jewish Banking Conspiracy LLC" dividend checks is a K. Bilderberg.
Wheels within wheels I guess.

You may contact the Bildeberg group and ask them to send you by mail the pamphlet where they have listed the purposes of the group and their members :)

The Bildeburg's fall into the same catagory in the public eye as two other groups; the illuminati, Skull and Bones, and the freemasons. People have this belief that one (or all, depending on how paranoid one is) 'run the world'. They believe that these secret societies meet together in regular intervals to discuss how to run things, what to do, what not to do, who to kill, who to elect, etc.
Fact of the matter is, none of the three have the kind of power that a lot of people believe. The Bildeberg group (sometimes confused with the Great 8, which is NOT secret) is composed of, essentially, a bunch of rich dudes (I have never heard a femal name listed as a potential member) to discuss business and politics.
Now, if we believe money is the root of all power (and evil) then yes, because of their finacial wealth, they would possess some degree of influence in the world, but to the level that many believe? Bah! Humbug!

If it a freemason like group then I can relate to it. A bunch of dudes get together and eat dinner, rich dudes have bodyguards and like to eat dinner in castles and its a conspiracy!

In his excellent (and very funny) book, 'Them', journalist Jon Ronson decides to see if he can find out who is controlling the world from a secret room, and goes off to meet various conspiracists, from the KKK, to Islamic fundamentalists, to David Icke (there's also a chapter about his encounters with Ian Paisley, which seems a bit tacked on, but it's a good read).
In one chapter, he tries to crash a Bilderberg meeting at a hotel in Portugal with Big Jim Tucker (who he doesn't realise until later is a notorious neo-Nazi), and ends up being tailed by their security men. This episode was extracted in The Guardian and can be read here (http://www.guardian.co.uk/weekend/story/0,3605,449181,00.html). I highly recommend a read.

The Illuminati, fairly, isn't around anymore. It was formed around 1780 in Bavaria, and its purpose was to destroy the idea of monarchy and establish a republic in Germany, through subtle and subversive means. It lasted about a year and a half before its participants lost interest.
