Just got this from a supposed Dr. Kingsley Theodore. It seems the same old scams just keep getting reworked.

This letter was first sent to you via post mail two months ago, but up till now; I have not heard from you. Based on this, I decided to reach you through this means. Though, I know for security reasons, this is not the safest means to reach you, but was left with no other viable option since there is the pressing need to reach you. I am quite sure that this email will surprise you since I have not been having previous correspondences with you. My name is Kelvin Lomax (Mr.), an Internal Auditor of one of the leading banks in United Kingdom [UK] name withheld for security reasons. I have a good business proposition for you, which I know that, by the special grace of God, will be beneficial to you. Firstly before I proceed, I have to assure you that this email is neither junk, illusion nor mere imagination, but practically achievable if given your maximum support and cooperation. I get loads of scam/spam e-mails all the time too. But the particular prose of this one just struck some sort of cord with me. I found it a nice break from the usual stuff.

"Me political prisoner in Kragmenistanvania, me have fortune, would you help me deposit much big check? You can keep googlezzion percent!"

Some of these seem to be phishing mule scams. They want you to open a bank account, then you receive a million bucks by electronic check transfer from Bank of Little Old Lady. You transfer $800,000 by wire transfer to Bank of Russian Crook. A week later Bank of Little Old Lady calls and debits your account $1,000,000. You are now overdrawn $800,000. You call Western Union and they remind you that that's not how Western Union works.

I had an e-mail claiming it was from a US soldier in Iraq trying to get help smuggling out some of Saddam's stolen gold. When I looked at the header information and did a WHOIS check of the IP addresses, I was happy to see the US soldier had already safely made his way to an internet cafe in Lagos, Nigeria by the time he had sent his message. :D
