No conspiracy here, just curious.
As a New Yorker I know that they were built over a bunch of years and it seems to me that they were in court over fire codes from the beginning.

What is it that you are curious about? the particular standards that they were built to meet, or the materials and methods that were used to meet those standards?

No, they had very different methods of fire protection. The building industry changes methods and materials quite often over time, sometimes due to regulations and often due to new techniques and products being designed. For instance it is well-known that due to code changes, WTC-1 had asbestos fireproofing up to the 36th floor, while WTC-2 had none.
I remember seeing a documentary on the fireproofing systems in the new WTC-7, showing how dramatically overbuilt it was (obviously to counter fears from the new tenants), with excessive fireproofing, and wider, concrete-surrounded stairwells.

Do you mean fire protection in general? Sprinklers? Fire retardant coatings? Protection of the steel core?

4, 5, 6, and 7 all had spray-on mineral-fiber fire protection over steel columns and beams, automatic sprinklers (inoperable on 9/11), column fire resistance ratings of 3 hours, floor assembly fire resistance ratings of 2 hours, and gypsum wallboard core and stairway enclosures. I don't have information on WTC 3, the Marriott Vista hotel. All buildings had compartmentalization features as required by code.
