This website has a few hundred high-res and wide angle shots of "the pile" taken within a few days of 9/11. that I have cited for ages. Today I see that the someone hasn't renewed the domain name.
I's hate to see the content lost.

You do know that loosing the domain name doesn't imply the data is gone.

What's the website... I still have "teleport pro" here and it can quickly make a copy of a website's content.

I did a little digging and came up with cached registrar information for firststrike.net so they can be contacted.

It's gone now unless someone pays the bill or contacts
the owner and gets the data some other way.

I'm not able to find the full-size images cached anywhere. But, found thumbnail images of everything that was on firststrike.net
Posted thumbnails here:
http://www.debunk911myths.org/topics/Firststrike
These appear to be a collection of images that whoever owned the site, they gathered from elsewhere. Some may have been unique, but I'm not sure.
A domain is often a separate thing from hosting, paid separately. The website files and images may be sitting on a server somewhere, but just with no domain pointing to it now. If they renew, the site likely can be restored. If the domain expires without the current owner renewing, I have it on order to get it. Would then be happy to give it back or work with them to get the site back up, if they want. If not, it could be a place for images, video, etc.

Is the website gone or is the domain just expired? These are two completly different things. The only one that implies completly gone is if the hosting expired.

The domain expired. The hosting is probably still there, but no domain pointing to it.
The site was hosted at:
http://whois.domaintools.com/69.248.124.21
That traces back to:
Comcast Cable Communications, Inc.
Resolve host:
c-69-248-124-21.hsd1.nj.comcast.net
That IP and host is home to multiple other websites. The actual location of the site and the files would be in some directory on that host. Not sure what it would be, though.

I know there are copyright issues in simply posting other people's pictures online. But if the domain does expire and come to me, it could host all the public domain images (from government sources) and photos (if we can get permission?). Anything that we don't have permission for, somehow fair use might work to show some images. Will need to think about it.
It's important that resources like these don't just disappear. I have a lot on my computer, but having some online repository for them would be better.
