Given the Chinese Government's attitude toward Copyright infringement; The recent recalls of Chineese goodies, from toys to Boy Scout Badges; and the current crisis with the toy "Dots" (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TOYS_DATE_RAPE_DRUG?SITE=CODER&SECTION=US&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2007-11-08-09-14-27;) which turn into GHB when ingested, do we have a conspiracy by the Chinese to bring down Western Civilization, the US in particular?
It just seems odd that a goverrnment which exerts such control over its "citizens" would let so much get by.

But, on the other hand, incompetence is so much more easily hidden in totalitarian regimes, as is greed.

On the Gripping Hand, there is also the greed of the stockholders and officers of the toy licensing and importing companies in the US and abroad which may be looking the other way until they get caught.

Or, it could be a combination of all the above. Whadda ya think? Conspiracy, or just Greed Gone Wild?

That, or is a simple matter of they just want to sell stuff and don't care who (outside of their country) it's construction may harm.

Basically China's going through the same sort of corporate revolution that the U.S. did in the late 1800s early 1900s. Crappy working conditions. Unsafe products. Products that aren't as designed/described. etc. Lack of oversight, rampant bribery of and by communist party officials.

Give them 20-30 years... THEN they might be really ready to produce the world's crap ethically.

I'm personally leaning toward greed myself, but I have to admit it seems slightly suspicious that all of this stuff is happening at once.

Regardless, didn't the Chinese guy in charge of producing the Mattel toys commit suicide? Sign of a guilty conscience perhaps? Either that or he was forced to committ seppuku (or the Chinese equivalent) as a coverup.

In other words, I could go either way, but I'd need more evidence. :D

Cheap labor and corporate greed seem to be the main factors at play as far as I can see when it comes to China. Cutting corners and using cheaper, though more dangerous materials such as (lead based paint) might make for a higher profit margin, but can only lead to banned import items when the products don't measure up to safety standards. The Chinese really need to address and embrace the same standards of safety demanded by the western market, though it is hard to say whether Beijing will impose rules on manufacturers or not seeing how it could make them less competitive in the global market place.

Kinda the same thing here--Coincidences do occur, and greed piled on greed coupled with corruption and incompetence tends to eventually rise up and bite the perpetrators in the butt at some point.
God only knows--and the evidence indicates that He hasn't talked to anybody sane in years...

Well now you know why there has been an influx of Chinese buffet restaurants. Those are used to allow Chinese troops to infiltrate into our society for preparation for war using cooks as a disguise...and to make Americans fat.

Given the content of your previous posts, it's difficult to figure out if you're being serious here, or not. So, I'll just ask:

Are you being serious here?

What a luverly place.....

A trial has begun of 12 people who are accused of involvement in a slave labour scandal in illegal mines and brick factories in northern China. Among those who went on trial on Wednesday are kiln boss Wang Bingbing and foreman Heng Tinghan, state news agency Xinhua said.
The charges include illegal detention, forced labour and murder, Xinhua said.
Almost 570 people trafficked as slaves, 50 of them children, have been freed in Shanxi and Henan in the last few weeks.
The scandal came to light after some 400 distraught parents of children who had been sold into slavery set up an online campaign to raise awareness of the issue.
The case drew widespread anger and unusually strong criticism from the state-run media. President Hu Jintao ordered an immediate inquiry.

I may be a Republican but I do believe the unions in the late 1800s and first half of the 1900s *were* in the right.

Now they're just greedy :)

(Yes, I've worked in open union shops, and other times, I have been at odds with their bureaucratic ways many times... Such as when I was computer desktop support in the mid 90s, if a customer's computer was having issues... such as a bad KEYBOARD... we had to call a union electrician to test the voltage coming out of the outlet... AND THEN we could see the customer and find the real problem. How long did it take for them to test the outlet? 1 to 2 days.)

The union TRIED to get the need for them to test the outlet before requests for PASSWORDS to be reset could be done.

Workplace safety is one thing... Job security... That's another.

Well the lead paint is at the heart of the conspiracy. The Chinese are using lead paint on children's toys so that the next generation of Americans will be more learning disabled (than the current generation)...then they invade!

And yes, I do know several people who actually believe this.

I am not surprised. Next they will be accusing the Chinese of putting mercury in this or that, and then they'll blame them for HIV, and then they say the Chinese were behind 9/11.

What you mean "they will be accusing"?

Soon after the horrific attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, two high-ranking Chinese military planners took credit for the 9/11 attacks and were even hailed as national heroes in China.

http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2002/9/24/143618.shtml

Now, author Gordon Thomas has written a book claiming that Beijing had an actual role in the Sept. 11 attack on America. In "Seeds of Fire," Thomas purports to show how Beijing is positioning itself to become America's "new major enemy."

It's not a Conspriacy, it's greed. The lead paint was cheaper then the unleaded, so one of the distributers switched the paints and charged for non-lead. The same with the Bindeze beads, the chemical in the glue was substituted because it was less than a third the price (and I bet they were still charging the price for the chemical that was supposed to be in the product too.)

What you have is a Chinese conspiracy to rule the world.

And our President is afraid to stand up to them.

Remember the Spy Plane incident?

He allowed them to have free access to that aircraft because he was unwilling to piss them off by explosively modifying it with a cruise missile or by putting a freeze on all Chinese assets in the USA.
