A new study (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7083323.stm) has shown that higher Vitamin D levels may reduce aging.

How soon before this is jumped on to sell Vit D capsules?

The article also says that there is no proof for many of the statements. There are so many other possibilities that have not been evaluated, the study may make an association where there is none and at least suggest a relationship that has not been proven. Even when this relationship exists, it does not show a causal relationship. Seems more like the main researchers are overreaching the results of their own study in their statements, the BBC News editor was clear in the emphasis on the lack of proof for the further hypotheses for study made by the main researchers. The researchers just should have said: "Good question, needs further research"

So why post it here?

To provoke comment.
Although the authors in the abstract mention that Vit D levels can be altered by consumption, implying that anti-aging is only a matter of popping a few pills, I agree that the BBC item is an example of good science reporting.

But, again, how soon will the anti-aging component be pushed and the real data lost.

Already the media is coming out with Women Who Spend Time in the Sun May Age More Slowly, Study Says (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,309916,00.html).
