Search for synonyms

With google you can search with synonyms in the query ?

Example 1 :

food ~salt

That would search for :

food AND (all synonyms of salt)

Example 2 :

food ~salt -salt

Would search for :

food AND (all synonyms of salt excluding the word salt).

My question is which dictionary of synonym is used by google ?

Is there a way to use our own dictionary or edit the dictionary used by google search ?

Or do you know of another search engine that permit this ?
