It looks like the sisters are demanding equal rights when it comes to accessing the youth of the parish...

Sorry - I'm not willing to register/login to the NY Times. But, still, the idea of naughty nuns certainly piques my, um, "interest".
Somehow I doubt the reality of the news story is anywhere near as harmless as the image in my mind.

Ooops - I just needed to feed the NY Times some cookies. It now lets me in.
Wow - the assault happened in the 60's and she pleads "no contest". There must have been some pretty good evidence.. or her conscience got the best of her.

I am curious to know if a judge will actually sentence an eighty-year-old nun to twenty years in prison.

How could I resist clicking a thread on Naughty Nuns. ;) :D
I wonder how old the boys were at the time?
Because, that would be pretty kinky, doing it with a nun. I wonder if she was wearing her habit.
Somehow to me it doesn't feel like a victimization if they are boys. When I was a boy that would have been a fantasy come true for me. But, I'm an Atheist so I don't suffer from Catholic Guilt about sex.

How come this is so? It's kinky if it comes from a nun, and sick and twisted if it comes from a priest.
This happens with teachers, too. The perception is that a teenage girl who received advances from a handsome male teacher is a victim, but a teenage boy who receives advances from a beautiful female teacher is lucky.
Why the double standard?

Why the double standard? There are two issues that should remain separate but are usually conflated when discussing this topic:
1. What is the common impact on a boy as opposed to the common impact on a girl?
2. What is the liability of a male adult perpetrator as opposed to a female adult perpetrator?
I think most on this forum would agree that in regard to question 2, there is, generally speaking, no difference.
I also think that many on this forum would argue that in regard to question 1, there is significant difference. Without advocating one position or another, I can--as a psychological layman--see an argument that boys and girls would view sex with an adult differently and therefore react differently.
Males and females are not the same, either physically or psychologically or emotionally. If I found out my daughter were molested by an adult male, I would fear for her psychological well being, and I would want the man dead. If I found out my sons were molested by an adult female, I would fear for their psychological well being, I would want the woman thrown in jail for a long time and possibly dead, and I might also--depending on the circumstances and their apparent reactions--think, just a little, "good for you."
That isn't consistent, I know. It's probably not right. But I'm a guy, and my thinking leans that way.

One poor lad was dragged, kicking and screaming, to "touch her breasts 'n stuff" 100 times.
Before we render moral judgement, though, we first need to see if she was relatively attractive or not when this occurs.
Only then may we decide if we should be outraged at her actions, or at the actions of the prosecutors.

Well of course.
Hawt teacher = lucky kid
Scary teacher = abused kid
Hawt teacher in a nun's habit? We should stone the media for not providing a picture (oh, and thanks RB - even tho she's your wife).

Sounds like the general sexual double standard. The girl is a victim because her virtue was taken away, the boy is triumphant because he scored.

Whose security? That girl's a fair shot with the .357 magnum. Providing that information probably wouldn't change her's but may adversely affect yours.

They haven't been properly educated that they are supposed to feel victimized. That every fiber of their being, screaming yes, awesome, more more! is wrong, and that they should feel ashamed and that they were abused.

It might be a nice change from the nunnery.
I wonder if the men are actually hoping for a bit of a pay off. I think the church should keep supporting the nun--not the tax payers.
What goes on in the minds pedophiliac clergy, I wonder. Do they really believe in hell? Or maybe they feel confession makes it all better. But then they keep doing it. You'd think this would make the churches finally acknowledge that the sex drive is not subject to will-- heck, the likes of Ted Haggard cannot control his actions--then how can anyone control their feelings. Sure you feel "possessed"-- primal urges are after all, primal--not readily subject to reason. Sexual repression leads to some pretty bizarre behavior.

With the writers on strike, now is the time! Let's get to work on that screenplay. First, if one nun with a gun is good, three would be better! It would be like Charlies Angels meets the Sound of Music. There would be an older non-threatening arch-bishop type who gives them assignments each week. One would be a sweet, lovable, sometimes-too-innocent gunslinger. One would be a quiet, serious nun/ninja with computer skills. And one would be a street-wise, shotgun totin' sister who drives the car. What kind of car do they have?

Part of that is simply sexism (what boys and girls are "supposed" to do), but there are some good reasons for it.
1) Sex is much more likely to be physically painful for a young girl than a young boy.
2) Boys don't have to worry about getting pregnant.

Females are more likely to get pregnant, get a venereal disease, and risk shame and reputation damage for engaging in sex... males... not as much... although the latter must be awful for males who are victims of adult men of the cloth.

Why the double standard? Maybe men and women actually are different, and this makes a moral difference? Men are larger, stronger, more intimidating.Oh wow, man !
Wait a second man. whaddaya think the teachers gonna look like this year ?
My butt, man !
T-t-teacher stop that screaming, teacher dont you see ?
Dont wanna be no uptown fool.
Maybe I should go to hell, but Im doin well,
Teacher needs to see me after school.
Chorus:
I think of all the education that I missed.
But then my homework was never quite like this.
Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad,
Im hot for teacher.
I got it bad, so bad,
Im hot for teacher.
Spoken:
Hey, I heard you missed us, were back !
I brought my pencil
Gimme something to write on, man
I heard about your lessons, but lessons are so cold.
I know about this school.
Little girl from cherry lane, how did you get so bold ?
How did you know that golden rule ?
Chorus
(guitar solo)
Oh man, I think the clock is slow
I dont feel tardy
Class dismissed

That's what I'm talkin' about. We need some villains. I'll bet Penn Jillette would like to play baddie who gets nabbed by the naughty nuns. Let's try to get him for the pilot. We'll try to line up Christopher Hitchens for a future episode. We also need a working title, any suggestions?

Also, rape is much more evolutionarily costly for women than for men. Makes sense it would be more traumatizing, just as getting kicked in the crotch hurts men more.

Is it the general perception that males "give" sex, while females "receive" it? If so, it would be harder to perceive the giver of something as the victim...
Is there anything to the notion that males are less emotionally invested in sex, or that females are more emotionally invested?
Those notions could be why there's a tendency to think of girls as victims and boys as lucky.
