http://www.householdhacker.com/Every once in a while some woo makes it's way to the front page of youtube. Today I discovered this website through such a woo video. It's such blatant woo that I have no idea why people even fall for it. Powering a television with a battery??? Could you get any more blatant?

I fail to see the "woo" in this.
I thought Householdhacker was a (rather lame) attempt at parody, regarding the countless DIY videos popping up recently.

Go look at the comments on the video. If it is parody people are not getting it.
It sure does. The power is not coming from the onion. That just serves as the paste to hold together the electrolytes (which serves to transmit the electricity). The electricity comes from the metal inside the USB cable. Different metals have different tendencies to give up and receive the electricity inside of them, as one metal gives up it's electricity, it will corrode. This will destroy your USB cables by corrosion.
Didn't have an onion, but I tried with garlic. It worked, but only for a few minutes. Neat.
It's also hard to tell. I remember recently there was a youtube video that I was watching where someone stuck a battery into "water" and then lit something on fire on top.

Yes it is a parady also getting a good laugh at the comments.
Can you please post an small tecnical explanation, and the differences between American and european voltage on this experiment?
cheers!
Hi, would you like to give an explanation of how does this work? It has to be with RCA cables or you could use any type of wire? What will happen if I just connect a AAA battery using only a pair of regular wires and isolation tape?

Thank you. It's kind of hard to distinguish parady from the real thing sometimes. There is another video that I read about in Make Magazine that I should post. Unfortnatly, Im doing work right now.

Red Green comes to mind. He could make anything with enough duct tape.:p
