View Full Version : Oh No It's Glurg!

My father sent me this today;

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke, it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.

And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school ... the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!

End.

Oh brother - "thought process" indeed!
:rolleyes:

I didn't have time to respond in length, so I let my Dad off easy w/ this;

Dad;

So god - a perfect being - is pissed at us because we don't kiss up to him enough??

Hmmm...is that behavior worthy of a diety??

Think about it.

Barkhorn.

Hardly a complete or accurate description of what's in the Bible and why it is not taught in the public schools. Since a couple of those are from the commandments, go straight to the first one to understand why.

Why no mention of killing siblings? It's not just "now", it's been going on since Cain and Abel.

This "lacko" thought process is why the world is in such bad shape.

Snopes Urban legends ref: (http://www.snopes.com/rumors/wheregod.htm)

Aside from the distastefulness of it, and the updating of gods personality (against all the 'immoral' things he is credited for, in the bible), it not what Anne Graham actually said.

Why do those stupid fundies keep pushing for theocracy? Don't they understand they're just advocating fascism with their cries for freedom? I guess it's not enough that they have appropriate places for worship such as CHURCHES, PUBLIC SPACES, and THE PRIVACY OF THEIR OWN HOMES!

I thought that was a very good response.

Can't God protect individuals instead of nations? I mean, if only atheists or liberals had died in the Twin Towers... that would make some sense. But apparently God isn't any better than the Army or the CIA... he can't protect individuals and he can't warn us that it's coming.

When good things happen, people praise the Lord.

But good things dont happen all the time, people immediately spout off "God works in mysterious ways"...

A bit of a doublestandard...

Well if I remember the bible correctly, either God lets bad things happen to good people all the time (which makes it obvious that God is not morally perfect).

And if he "works in mysterious ways", hey, am I wrong in making the assumption that god is doing bad things to people. The Old Testament is filled to brim with stories like that.

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.
Wow, what irony. Why would god be saddened when those terrorists hijacked the planes and killed 1000s of innocent civilians in his name? Or, am I making a mistake of assuming God and Allah are the same person...

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.
The newspaper has a bit more credibility than fairytales. And I wouldnt believe for a second that journalists who write for newspapers all over the world have been "devinely inspired".

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
First, free speech is one of humans Natural rights.

Second, God is supressed in school because so many people have conflicting views following religion. But... religion can be discussed (in a somewhat limited fashion) in school, but never to be taught. Why shouldnt it be taught in schools, Yahweh? Because it would be an establishment and promotion of religious beliefs over another which is prohibited by 1rst Amendment, also it would infringe on a person's natural right to free religion. To get passed it, education and Government are religion-neutral.

Are you laughing?
Only at the incredible thickheadedness of the original author of this chainletter.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!
Dont worry, I wouldnt send this chain letter. I dont feel like contributing to the trashing of the world by propagating religion.

Hey... maybe I'm taking chainletter's too seriously... a bowl of Cheerios will help calm me down.

So much for Not bearing false witness.

I hear what you and Peter Jenkins are saying about accuracy.

However, I doubt that the target audience even care. They agree wholeheartdly w/ the message - so what if she didn't say "exactly" that.

sigh :o
