View Full Version : Kucinich Picks Rep. Paul To Be VPOTUS!

Dennis Kucinich has announced his first pick for running mate, and it is (dramatic pause…..): (http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2007/11/if_kucinich_wins_nomination_ro.html)
Call it the liberal-libertarian ticket, where left meets right and Democrat Dennis Kucinich picks Republican Ron Paul to be his vice president.
Kucinich, the Cleveland congressman running in a longshot bid to become president, suggested it himself today.
“I’m thinking about Ron Paul” as a running mate, Kucinich told a crowd of about 70 supporters at a house party here, one of numerous stops throughout New Hampshire over the Thanksgiving weekend. A Kucinich-Paul administration could bring people together “to balance the energies in this country,” Kucinich said.

Of course, because Ron Paul is the runaway favorite to win the GOP nomination. As the recent poll here proves, no way can the Paul juggernaut be stopped. Maybe Kucinich will be Paul's VP?

Yeah, this might lead me to lean towards Gravel as my main "Somewhat unrealistic candidate who I might like to win" guy, although I might end up voting for Obama in the primaries both for tactical reasons and because there's certain aspects of Kucinich and Gravel's "craziness" which puts me off somewhat. (Although the link does phrase things in very hypothetical terms, with Kucinich just throwing the idea out there.)
Not an absolutely terrible idea, though, since in the insane possibility that Kucinich were to actually win, their radical differences would prevent Paul from doing much damage, and I definitely think that a "liberaltarian" alliance might be a feasible strategy to pick up votes. (Plus, if a "libertaltarian" ticket were to run as a third party, they might be able to avoid the spoiler effect by picking people from both parties simultaneously.)

Heh. Last week it was someone suggesting Barack Obama pick Dick Cheney as his running mate.
All I can conclude is that someone in Hillary's camp is paying someone a lot of money to float these rumors, so that when people look at Hillary again, they say, "Y'know, maybe she's not as dreadful as I thought..."

"It was really hot today, wasn't it? How hot was it? It was so hot in Washington DC that Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul were seen walking in the shadow of Elizabeth Kucinich."
"You've heard of the Kucinich / Paul health care plan, right? Universal abduction care that no one has to pay for. All aliens covered too. If you feel sick, you travel to a desolate farm in Iowa, look skyward and..."
"I heard that Dick Cheney introduced a new H.R. Randy-Newman bill in Congress today called Short People Ain't Got No Right To Live..."

Ann Coulter is smart. She's also utterly unscrupulous and purposely (one might even say intelligently) says outrageous things in national media outlets for the sole purpose of selling her books, and thus making money.
There are plenty of stupid people who make a lot of money. Brad Pitt is reputedly a class-A moron. John McEnroe was never going to be valedictorian.

Randi Rhodes is this and Randi Rhodes is that - but one thing she is NOT known to be is an author. I think she only did the one book, and it did not get very far at all.
Mann Coulter, however, has written about a half a dozen books, which get heavily, and freely, promoted on extremist right wing media outlets. In other words - mass media in the United States of America.
So - your statement about Randi Rhodes doing what she does to promote her books? Completely wrong.

Well obviously I'm not happy with someone who actually thinks Mann Coulter writes well, but you are entitled to your opinion.
You actually believe that someone who wants to "perfect" Jews, writes well? That someone who calls people "faggots" in public speeches, writes well? That someone who disses women who have had their husbands horribly killed in the 9/11 horror, writes well?

Geez Beeps, I hope you're not working up to defending the putrid Mann Coulter, to any degree. Other than he and/or she has a right to his and/or her opinion. You're not defending Mann's positions, are you? Don't ever scare us like that on a public forum, please. Some of us read this while we're driving.
Randi Rhodes is "utterly" unscrupulous? Nope. Does she say some outrageous things on her show? Yep. You understand the concept behind the word "show", don't you Beeps? It's a show! She's doing infotainment (and I hate that word but cannot think of a better one at this time). She's a U.S. Democrat (in other words, basically normal) and her show is going to be heavily slanted against right wingers. Good. Only problem with Randi Rhodes is there aren't enough - not NEARLY enough - like her, to try and balance against the rabid and hate-spewing right wing radio talk shows.
I like her. I don't agree with every single thing she says - and I've even been critical about some of her claims, when she starts coloring too far outside the lines. But I still like her. Ex-military, like me. We've both been on commercial radio, although her talent in that area far exceeds mine. Randi Rhodes used to drive a big rig, 18-wheeler. I like that. She's worked the minimum-wage radio circuit (boy do I know what that's like). And - she's funny. Tough to be funny today. Exceedingly tough. And one more thing: Randi Rhodes has a good heart. You know she cares about people in general. That comes through the airwaves quite clearly.
Mann Coulter cares about one thing: Mann Coulter. She's a right winger, so obviously, no surprise there.

Only problem with Randi Rhodes is there aren't enough - not NEARLY enough - like her, to try and balance against the rabid and hate-spewing right wing radio talk shows.Actually, I listen to her and all I hear is rabid hate-spewing. Take yesterday. Some guy called up ("First-time, long-time") and after kissing her behind for a few seconds about how wonderful she was, started off in full Bush-Derangement-Syndrome mode about "this bunch of fascists..."
Did Rhodes bring him up short? Hell, no. She used that as a launching pad to go off on a diatribe about how the Republicans were working up to cancelling the 2008 presidential elections. What is it about this bizarre claim that the Unhinged Left loves so much? They were making it in 1971 when I was in college - that Nixon had commissioned a study by the RAND Corporation to see how the 1972 elections could be called off. If Rhodes seriously believes this, she's loonier than... well, anybody. If she doesn't, then she's a hypocrite and a demagogue.
Randi Rhodes has a good heart. You know she cares about people in general. That comes through the airwaves quite clearly. Are you talking about the same Randi Rhodes I am? What comes across is someone in a constant, near-apoplectic rage. I've only heard her about four or five times so far, so I can't say she's always like this, but not once have I heard anything that made me think, "Hmmm, that sounds interesting and thoughtful; I should look into it."
By constrast, a lot of people here, people I disagree with regularly, make me think, and help me learn. If Rhodes is so smart and so talented, how come her foaming-at-the-mouth rants would quickly get her relegated to the ranks of the Ions and E.J. Armstrongs if she poked her head in here?

Plus John will be able to predict which primaries I will win and which ones I shouldn't waste my time and money on. He also predicts that he will become president two years, three months, and fourteen days after my inauguration, which seems strange, since everyone knows presidential terms run for four years."

I agree.
It amuses me,though, that people will defend the dirty tactics of a media figure they agree politically with, while attacking a media figure of who uses the exact same tactics but is of the opposing view point.
Militant ideologues seldom realise they are militant ideologues. They always think they are the voice of reason.
I have yet to see anybody prove to me that Rhodes is any less reprehensible then Coulter. I stopped taking Rhodes serioulsy when she conducted a heavy flirtation with the 9/11 Truthers a while back.

I don't see the purpose of deciding who's the most reprehensible anymore. It's like trying to decide which gang has the nicest thugs.
