Rally in DC Feb. 28: SCA, FFRF, AHA at Supreme Court steps

Jeff Wagg said I can post this announcement in both Events and Community, so I'll start with the Events forum. There's a big church-state rally in DC in a few weeks, here's the info:

Event Notice!

Rally for Your Right to Freedom from Religion!

Please join FSGP and AHA for the official rally challenging the White
House Office of the Faith-Based and Community Initiatives! On February
28, 2007, at 9:30 am we will congregate in front of the United States
Supreme Court in support of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Oral
arguments in their lawsuit questioning the legality of the Faith-Based
Initiatives will be heard in the Court. Already confirmed rally
speakers include Fred Edwords, Director of Communications for the
American Humanist Association; Stuart Jordan, Board Member of the
Washington Area Secular Humanists; Lori Lipman-Brown, Director
of the Secular Coalition of America; and Margaret Downey, President of
Atheist Alliance International and The Freethought Society of Greater
Philadelphia (FSGP). More speakers will be added.

The Faith-Based Initiatives are a clear breach of the First Amendment
principle of church-state separation. Make sure to join us and stand
up for your rights!

WHO: Freedom From Religion Foundation, The American Humanist
Association, Secular Coalition for America, Washington Area Secular
Humanists, Atheist Alliance international, FSGP and others!

WHAT: Protest the Office of the Faith-Based and Community Initiatives

Street, NE Washington, DC (Closest metro stops are Capitol South on
the Blue and Orange lines and Union Station on the Red Line)

wow! Great cause. I"m a Xian and I fully support this.

This is an AMERICAN belief (or should be) not a religion vs. atheist belief.

I wish I could borrow Hals stuff and dress up like a founding father. They would be marching!

I agree wholeheartedly! Beliefs (or the lack thereof) are meaningless in regards to church-state separation. Supporting the First Amendment protects everyone's freedom of conscience. A secular government is neutral toward religion, neither supporting nor opposing it.

I was recently asked by Americans United for Separation of Church and State to write an article about atheists and theists working together to defend the Wall of Separation. I don't know when or where they will publish it, but I posted it in my blog, and you can read it here: Atheism Aside: Separation Supporters Should Seek Solidarity.

That would be a riot. All I know is that for DC in February, we have to dress WARMLY.
