Tips for travellers to TAM

This just hit the news

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/12/23....ap/index.html

Quote:
Foreigners entering U.S. airports and seaports -- except those from Western Europe and a handful of other countries -- will soon have their fingerprints scanned and their photographs snapped as part of a new program designed to enhance border security.

The program, to be up and running on January 5 at all 115 airports that handle international flights and 14 major seaports, will let Customs officials instantly check an immigrant or visitor's criminal background.
Welcome to our country

According to this link http://www.dhs.gov/interweb/assetlib...QnA_102703.PDF
the lucky countries are :
Quote:
Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (For citizens with the unrestricted right of permanent abode in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.)

From personal experience, when I now fly- always have government issued ID, don't have anything metal on my body, not even a belt buckle, be prepared to take off shoes, don't take anything sharp on the plane, be early...I think that is it

I saw on the news tonight that part of the "chatter" that's been going on has been about Las Vegas being a potential target for terror.

Canada is not on the list of "goodies"? I'm shocked!

Actually, if you look at the official government document Renata linked to, there's a whole section on how Canadians are exempt from this, because Canadians don't need Visas to enter to the US, and these measures only affect people who need Visas.

The moron who was been trying to get my web sites closed down for years posted the following to a Usenet newsgroup this week:
Quote:
Bowditch is an ardent and obessive supporter of the Al-Qeda and terrorism in general. He will not be allowed to enter the US.

See you all in Las Vegas.

Airport Security

Does anyone here know whether current airport security procedures prefer a passport to a state driver's license for domestic flights? I heard something about passports being preferred (because they're a bit more secure), but that was some time ago. I won't be flying direct to Las Vegas, which might make things a bit easier given current news, but still....

Mike.

AIrports and Canadians love passports. You don't need one, but if you want less hassle bring it. Unless you are kitten. Half her passport is in Arabic filled with Visas and permits from her trips to Jordan. I was told she's on a security list anyway because her passport causes problems. The list actually says she's a student not a terrorist, but it takes time for security to check on her...

However, having watched James Bond films for a few days, I'm glad they check up on her. Who knows what group could have brainwashed her while she was there?
