My first thought was these carved heads post dated European contact. But if they are older, then the sheep/monkey explanation makes sense.

I am still amazed that people defend the Skookum elk lay so I guess Kathy Strain will always believe these carved heads represent BF.
While you're looking for real animals to identify with these carvings, don't overlook the fact that Native Americans also carved purely mythical creatures, as I linked to somewhere above, including the underwater panther and the thunderbird. Given that the wild man/green man/ape man is a known facet of most Amerindian mythmaking, there can be no reason why tribes would not also make carvings of that mythical beastie.

I'm thinking maybe we should be asking a moderator to move every post on native carving from BG's Yakima thread (post #182 to this one) to here:

Native American myths/traditions support Bigfoot? A critical look.

BTW, nice map, rock.

2 prints, 1 trackway, same 'dermals'? 'Unfortunately no' says Meldrum.

Hi kit!

I'm back from the round-up! Is this the thread where I can talk about what a nice trip I had? Is this the thread where I can tell everyone what nice people Tom, Bobo and Bob Gimlin are? Is this the thread where I can tell you about how beautiful that wilderness is and how nice it was to be there with good friends?

Wait...I forgot what forum I was on, oh crap....(runs for his life)

Yes, it is. You can say they're nice people or culty Bigfoot guys or whatever as long as you don't cuss and preferably back up what you say (but you knew that).

You can whip out some of those great shots you took. We can battle in the photo thread over who has the better PNW wilderness shots, too.

That thread, Clay, should be your official guide, when debating with the ol footers. Make em look silly with Kitz's extensive knowledge and dedicated research on Native American folklore.
