As a matter of fact . . .

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A college student is suing the Nashville Church of Scientology, a security company and three off-duty Spring Hill police officers for $6 million. Thomas Parker said he was knocked to the ground, handcuffed and arrested, for nothing more than attempting to peacefully protest.

I recommend Antonia Fraser's Excellent book on the Gunpowder plot. Great stuff.
Fascinating how a 17th Century Catholic equivilent of a modern day Islamic fanatic became a anarchist meme thanks to Alan Moore.

Regarding the poem... perhaps someone better knowledgeable can explain that I'm mistaken--but does it seem to anyone else that the author abandons all meter for the last two lines? The beginning holds it so nicely...

I'm guessing Anon uses Guy Fawkes because of V for Vendetta, and the parallel 'power of everyman' or the entire notion that the proletariat can at any time it wishes exercise extensive power over any organization while at the same time not being a salient hierarchy. The power of an ephemeral 'group' to target a strictly organized and well funded institution using the simplest of methods, and still win, is appealing to them.

I suppose that explanation will have to do. People will find inspiration in the oddest things.

In the meanwhile, I shall once again spectate while Anon OBLITERATES Scientology with another...picket.

Can anyone explain to me why we need to dress up like a religious fundamentalist terrorist (and an incompetent one at that) in order to protest against members of another sinister and powerful cult?

As did I, then you need to stretch "ever" out to make the last line work.

I am aware of the connection thanks to this wonderful site: Take Our Word For It. Of course I only even know the name Guy Fawkes because of some Vonnegut book. I forget which one. I think it was Palm Sunday.

I watched that video a couple of times and liked how the music played against the voice over. But I couldn't figure out how the music continued and changed through each viewing. Then I realized that I was playing Fantastic Contraption, and that was where the music was coming from. The music certainly fits.

That video sent chills down my spine when I first saw it. I would hate to think how it affected many scientologists, although the fact that they're deserting in droves might provide some indication.

Ah, that was probably considered a bit too gory for delicate young minds.

(ETA: Come to think of it, I don't think it was considered too gory for even younger minds in the 1305 context though....)

I just looked it up, although he was sentenced to be hung ,drawn, and quartered he managed to effectively commit suicide partway through his execution- he broke his neck and was dead before they got onto the drawing and quartering.
