Skeplympics

I'm trying to come up with a fun activity for the opening night of the 2011 NZ conference.

I thought doing some sort of skeptical olympics would be fun.

This is what I have so far:

Quote:
Skeplympics

Break everyone into teams

1 team for each station

5-7 minutes per station

(ideally 4-6 people per team. 50 pax = 8.33 stations.)

9-10 stations

Might have to be the other way round - 9-10 pax per team, 4-6 stations.

Stations:

• Friend or Foe:
Faces - pairs? Name them or just identify?

• Pin the tail on the creationist
Pics of creatards - pin the monkey tail on.
1 tail, multiple creationists? Or tails for all of them? Everyone has a go.
^ high score for getting ray, lower for Gish etc

• Gish gallop:
Some sort of relay race. Bucket full of logical fallacies (metaphorical?)

• Spot the logical fallacies:
Statement on cards, LFs on cards match them up (puzzle type game)

• Some sort of puzzle:
Jigsaw style? (have a few and rotate / randomize them?)
Logic puzzles?

• Ten23 Challenge:
Race to dilute as many times as possible in 5 minutes (Relay again?)
Bonus point for reaching avagardros limit
Any other ideas?

Has anyone already done something like this?

As someone who has been to a convention or two in his time, for multiple reasons, i can say things like this, themed events that arn't really fun events to begin with, do not usually make for an excellent time.

What i suggest is just finding things that are fun and get people to work together. And drop the wedging in of skepticality. You will get less eye rolls and more enjoyment from the participants ( and in case this came off as a dig, i have put on my share of events ranging from for kids, to the elderly. And am just trying to legitimately help, so feel free to toss out other ideas or ask me for any specifics, i meant in no way to be dismissive, i just did not want to seem intrusive and say " here is a list of what you need to do.")

Since its going to be in Christchurch I'd suggest something Ken Ringish.
Lunar cycle races.
With a milkshake at the end for the winner
