Do it Yourself Trascranial Electrical Stimulation

An interesting article here from new Scientist on inducing brain states similar to those found in experts "in the zone" having the result of improving performance:

http://www.newscientist.com/article/...us.html?page=1

Thought this was pretty cool... and then I saw the little callout box on the last page where people were attempting to replicate this as a do-it-yourself" initiative at home. This will surely end well....

As an aside, I'm left wondering whether the artificially induced state makes it easier in the future to return to said state without external stimulation?

I wrote a whole post here and then scrapped it on realising this is direct electrical stimulation, not magnetic (TMS). Not heard of this before. Fascinating, thanks.

I've been expecting this sort of thing to become the new drug of choice. Maybe if it was illegal and really expensive?
