Megachurch Preacher Arrested For Assaulting Daughter

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/0...ery/?hpt=hp_t2

Oops!

I predict he will tearfully ask for forgiveness on his next TV show, and the idiots will keep sending checks.

Used to prank call the **** out of this guy's 1800 number back in the day. WAtching him and popoff, and proceeding to make folks rethink their choice of segment in the callcenter was pretty much an after the bar tradition for like 4 years.

He's one of those "prosperity gospel" preachers. They are particularly annoying.

Quote:
Dollar is a senior pastor of World Changers Church International in suburban Atlanta, which claims about 30,000 members and has an $18 million sanctuary that resembles a golden-domed spaceship atop a hill.

He built an international religious empire, with broadcasts of his sermons beamed worldwide and speaking engagements in Europe.

A barrel-chested man who favors impeccably tailored pinstripe suits in the pulpit, Dollar preaches the Prosperity Gospel, a message that says God will bless faithful Christians with wealth and debt-free living.
See! It works! Look how rich the preacher himself is!

You know, the Gospel of prosperity is crap, but I can't hate on the guy for it. He tells his people to give him money and he deserves to be wealthy, and they like seeing him so prosperous they line his pockets.

He tells people to give him money, and they do.

He also tells people that giving him their money will make them wealthy. But I guess anyone who is deceived by a preacher deserves it. Like those people who stop their medication as an act of faith to go to a healer.

A couple pf months ago a collegaue of mine from Texas was saying that the USA did not need a healthcare system like most other countries because the church would look after the sick and needy. This makes me think they are the sick and needy.

Quote:
Dollar said in a 2007 interview with The Associated Press that he renounced his salary from the church, and his income only comes from personal investments, including a real estate residential property business and horse breeding company called Dollar Ranch. He's published more than 30 books, focusing mostly on family and life issues, including debt management.
"I stopped taking a salary," he said. "But no one ask the question, 'Where are you getting your money from?' Well, I have boxes of invitations to speak. At first, I was glad to preach for anyone. What I didn't know was I received a love offering for preaching. Back then, it was for $25 bucks. But over the years, people began to appreciate what I was bringing to them."
He said in the interview that he sometimes got up to $100,000 for a single appearance on his packed schedule of speaking engagements.
"That tells you where my money comes from," he said.

Seems a logical extension of stores telling everybody for decades that the best way to save was to spend money at stores.

The Devil was behind it all in an attempt to discredit him and prevent him from spreading the gospel.

This is an illustration of how I feel, knowing that he is aware there are people out there stupid enough to believe it and still send him money.

I find the applause from his congregation, upon hearing him say that "I should not have been arrested", to be both perplexing and disturbing.

They seem to take it as a self-evident matter-of-fact that he should not have been arrested. How do they know this? Why *applaud* at his assertion?

And wouldn't the "Christian" thing to do be admitting your guilt and asking forgiveness? Instead, this guy just says its some diabolical (literally) attempt to hinder his mission!

It didn't hurt Mohammed's street cred.
