LOL - I was out to dinner when the last one was due. The manager told us he was tempted to start flickering the lights of his restaurant at the appointed time, but he chickened out at the last moment. Living in a bible belt town, I think he made a wise choice.

Rapture Ready has been around for a while and is a 'real' site, not some kind of satire.

They are pitiable creatures who see light as an omen of coming darkness, and darkness as a sign that there is more darkness to come.

I feel sorry for them.

From one of the wingnuts on the forum:
Quote:
As much as I hate watching our Nation fall, I'm ubber (sic) excited because it proves we are on God's timeclock.
Nation falls = good thing because God is coming to destroy everything or something!

Personally I love the Rapture pets site. You know, the one that has avowed atheists offering to take care of people's pets after the rapture for a modest upfront fee.

It started as a joke but then much to the author's surprise he started getting customers!

Reading through those posts on that web site, my first reaction would have been "Oh come on, these people can't be real", unfortunately, over the past ten or more years that I've been reading on the internet what people believe, I'll just have to conclude that this is not a hoax.

Oddly they keep making plans for the future while proclaiming loudly that they do not want to have a future. They don't seem to have much concern for their loved ones who will be emotionally devastated by the disappearance of their mothers, fathers, sons.... their only concern is themselves being raptured.

Hmm trolling that forum used to be a popular activity for memebers of this forum and II back in the early 2000s.

It is kind of sad. The internet can spread knowledge and understanding, can be used as a tool to foster human rights in far flung corners of the globe, and can give us accurate news from a variety of sources. But at the same time, it can be a tool for certified neurotics to play upon each others illnesses and exacerbate their symptoms.

For the life of me I cannot understand how someone could read the Bible and come away with the idea that Jesus was in favor of laissez-faire capitalism and the American way of life.

I will confess that I sometimes check the RR Index (a carefully calculated number indicating the likelihood of the impending Rapture), but I have to avoid the rest of the site. The only aspect of it that fascinates me is the lengths that the moderators will go to to enforce the no-date-setting rule. I mean if you polled a million Christians by saying "provide me with a Bible verse related to the coming of the Kingdom of God" I suspect the number one answer by far would be all or part of "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." And yet, these folks think that they know more than Jesus knows.

The site is an effective filter though. I don't think I could even pretend to be their idea of Christian and hang out there. The entire site is like that test in Blade Runner. After a few posts, no matter how hard I tried they'd find out if I was really one of them or not.

Becuase, duh, it's obvious that he was. Have you not read the small bits of the bible that can be barely spun out into that.

I mean, come on...

I cannot decided which part of the analogy I like more: the symbolism or the accuracy. Wicked awesome.

Yeah ok, I saw that word on the site and was wondering about it. Notice it is not called "Harpazo-Ready" though, because nobody would know what the heck they were talking about.

And what is the verb form of that? Harpazoed? Sounds vaguely erotic.

Quote:
Seizing something by force is part of the meaning of "harpazo". It does mean that the LORD will forcibly take His people Home...
I keep this little snip from their literature in my collection. It is a wholesomely violent image of Jesus coming again and ripping all the children from the arms of non believers like atheists.

harpazo, rapture. Sure. Whatever.

Well sure. fstdt is perceived as a form of persecution and therefore confirmation of their message. After all, if they were not being ridiculed - they are not delivering the right message.

Persecution is a fuel that stokes the fires of ideas that might otherwise burn themselves out due to the sheer nonsense content.
