Dean DelMastro and Vote Buying Allegations

http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/06...tro-donations/

lol

Quote:
OTTAWA — Two donors to Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro’s 2008 election campaign have produced copies of cheques they say were reimbursements paid by a small electrical company owned by his cousin.

The cheques show the donors each received $1,050 from Deltro Electric Ltd. of Mississauga, Ont., two days before they made $1,000 donations to Del Mastro’s electoral district association in Peterborough.

The donors also produced copies of the personal cheques they sent to the riding association in September 2008.

The cheques could be key pieces of evidence should Elections Canada extend its ongoing investigation of Dean Del Mastro’s 2008 campaign expenses to the donations that funded it.
*whistles 'can't buy me love'*

For any foreigners/non-politics-following-'nucks, Del Mastro was the tory pointman on the recent robocall* scandal. He's being (maybe) investigated over some financing *ahem* irregularities in his most recent (2011) election campaign.

*robocall was when a bunch of liberal and NDP supporters around Canada were called by an auto-calling machine and told to go and vote at non-existent polling stations.

I think this is a lot worse than $16 orange juice, how long are you going to dither on this one Stevie?

To hear Del Mastro tell it, Harpo hasn't dithered - he's been fully supportive of the Deanster's cause.

How is this "Vote buying"? Seems to me what he's doing is gaming the system that limits donations, by getting other people to funnel the money to him.

Okay well his cousin was paying people to donate to his party and get around the campaign finance contribution limits. So it's not 'vote buying' but it is still paying people to support your cause. Close enough in my opinion to warrant the punchier thread title (though it's still a desert in here!)

er... campaign, not necessarily 'party' (before I get grilled again)

But with the in-out kerfuffle the line is pretty blurry for the tories...
