"Goddard/Roswell connection"

Yeah I'm sure it's old news to everyone but me......but I just learned of this. On the off chance someone else doesn't know, FYI: Goddard did many (most?) of his early experiments with rockets - including the first to reach the edges of outer space - at a site in Roswell, NM. The idea goes that if aliens did visit in 1947, maybe they chose Roswell because this is where they saw such activity going on. I'm more than a tad skeptical about the alien Roswell thing, but I did think it was a kind of neat connection and at least gives some logic to why the flip they would chose this place to go of all the world...

yah, the American V2 testing was done at white sands, over a 100 miles away, near the place that the Trinity nuke tests were carried out at a place called Socorro, so there's no connection there and nothing that a once secret US govt report would describe as "the best-documented ufo case on record"
nothing to see here

''Strategic Air Command
In May 1946, the Army Air Forces (AAF) gave SAC the responsibility of delivering the atomic bomb. Only one of the command’s bombardment units, the 509th at Walker Air Force Base (then Roswell Field) in New Mexico, was trained and ready for the atomic bomb mission. Walker, and Kirtland to the north in Albuquerque, would quickly become the bases around which this mission first centered.
The 6th Bombardment Wing, Medium was established on December 20, 1950. It was activated on January 2, 1951 at Walker AFB, NM. It then flew the B-29 Superfortress. In August of 1952, it received the new B-36 Peacemaker and the unit was redesignated the 6th Bomb Wing (Heavy) . ''

SO NUKES PLUS ROCKETS THERE THEN

My son graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell...
They are the "Goddard Rockets" in all sports and activities.
The connection is well known.

There's nothing to see in Socorro but nerds and green sheep. Usually together, alone and naked.

In 1954 career minor leaguer Joe Bauman hit 72 home runs for the Roswell Rockets.

No, real life. The Roswell Rockets were a club in the Longhorn League, a minor league circuit that operated from 1947-55. Bauman dominated the league at the plate, finishing first in batting average (.400), runs scored (188), RBI (224), total bases (456), slugging percentage (.916), and home runs (72). However, the club finished in second place and was ousted in the first round of the playoffs 4 games to 2 by Carlsbad. The league played a 140-game schedule, meaning Bauman hit about one home run every two games.
