If I can make it work that I'm in Atlanta that week, I'll go to some talks/workshops. I'll be sure to hunt you down as it would be sceptic/science topics that I would attend.

Let's build a table!

I am willing to make forum avatar badges like I did last year, if anyone wants. I think I will make them a little smaller, this time.

Also indicate if you are attending the Star Party, hosted by Atlanta Skeptics:
http://www.atlantaskeptics.com/starparty/

And, if you are going to be wearing one or more costumes on one or more of the days, it might be fun to indicate that.

This will actually be my 7th Dragon*con, in case anyone is interested. I've been attending it since 2006.

But, next year (2013) I intend to go to Burning Man instead. And, if I like it enough, I might go again in 2014. Even if I don't, I might end up skipping D*C, anyway, for the sake of trying out a bunch of other conventions, for the sake of variety.

So, the next D*C after this one might end up being 2015, for me.

I don't think I will be wearing that costume at Burning Man. It will likely be waaaaaaay too hot for that sort of thing!

But, if I did wear it, I suspect it would be considered rather nifty. Have you seen the sorts of things people wear at Burning Man? (When they are wearing anything at all.)

Dragon*Con has several tracks of events going on at once. The schedules probably won't be finalized and available until a week or two before it starts.

There is a list of guests who will be there, focusing on actors and such first, but there is a list of professionals in other areas towards the bottom, some of whom will be part of SkepTrack:
http://dragoncon.org/dc_guests_list.php

SkepTrack has its own web site. When its schedule is available, I am sure you will find it there: http://www.skeptrack.org/

Also: You must take tables OUT of the QUOTE tags, when adding or editing them. That makes it easier for the next person to preserve your changes. If you don't do that, your changes or additions could get lost along the way.

I'll recopy your entry, this time. But, next time, you'll have to do it yourself, if you forget again.

Two of the many thingies about Burning Man is that:
1. It celebrates freedom of expression.
2. And, everyone is supposed to act all nice and altruistic with each other.

So, your statement conflicts with both of them. And, no "beating someone" does NOT count as acceptable self-expression if it was not voluntary.

You have no authority in this thread! Begone with you!

But, like I said: I won't be wearing that costume to Burning Man. I've been sweating too much in that thing even in an air conditioned building. What makes you think I would be dumb enough to wear it in the extra-hot sun?!!

I suppose there are creative ways one could re-design the costume for use in high-temperature areas. But, I don't think I will bother putting in the effort.

And, I don't think a body paint version of the costume is appropriate for the character.

Originally Posted by cornsail View Post

The neat thing is that an Arthur Dent costume doesn't need to do a lot of work. You can stand there being a normal person, and just allow a lot of crazy, weird things to happen all around you!

My plan is to don a bathrobe stained with the "mud" of a thousand planets. The mud will be simulated, of course. I don't think I can visit a thousand planets in time for D*C. A good mixture of brown and black paint, with bits of things in it, should suffice.

And, I will have a caveman-like beard with a "rabbit bone" in it. The rabbit bone will be simulated, of course, and not real.

I will also carry around a few props: A trusty towel. Maybe a pouch to keep interesting rocks in. I dunno.

My original plan was to wear the Arthur Dent costume on Friday, with a full natural beard. Then, I would shave it all off for my Spaceman Spiff costume, the next day. But, since I have to go to a wedding the week before, and they prefer I be clean-shaven for that, I will probably have to go with a fake beard, as well. At least this gives me more flexibility: I could now decide to swap costume days if I wanted to.

Here's an updated table. Consail: You didn't copy my last version with Estellea's line. So, I got it back in. Also, I am sorting them by alphabetic order, for some weird and possibly not worth-while reason.

Since I now have a StarParty ticket, I upgraded my response to "Yes".

Another good place to watch for updates is here:
http://dailydragon.dragoncon.org/

It's a blog of various updates to the convention. As it gets closer, there will be updates every single day (hence its name). Though, at the moment, it looks like there's barely a trickle.

Originally Posted by AvalonXQ View Post

I don't know for certain. But, I doubt it. It's more of a specialized convention (gaming). Whereas Dragon*Con is much more generalized.

There should be one this year: http://www.skeptrack.org/

They just don't have the schedule complete, yet.

The track was quite popular. Many events were room fillers. No reason to quit, yet.

They also added Neal Adams. I already confronted him, once, about his "Growing Earth theory". (I asked him to give us a prediction from his "theory", he gave me a rasberry sound effect.) I am wondering what I should do for a sequel. (aside from filming it, this time.)

Derek and I have entered the entire Skeptrack schedule into Lanyrd here. You can find the Twitter handles of all the speakers, other people who are going, and so on. There's a mobile version of the website and a smartphone app you can download, and you can sync it into your calendar.

Dragon*Con as a whole has their schedule in their own Smartphone app as well, but we wanted to have a nice focused place for just the skeptic stuff. As blogs, videos and so on are posted I'll link to those in Lanyrd as "coverage".

To download the app, direct your mobile device's browser to http://m.core-apps.com/dragoncon12

This will take you to the download for your device type.

Enjoy!

where did you find the schedule to enter? I can't make any schedule come up just on my computer. This is the first I've seen it - links don't work from the DC site

I started with the schedule that is in the official Dragon*Con smartphone app, then I got Derek onboard and he entered the latest changes.

Since there doesn't seem to be any great demand for avatar badges, I might just skip them, entirely, this year. If you REALLY want me to make one, let me know, though. I might make a small one for myself.

I've met sooo many celebs at previous Dragon*Cons, I feel like I barely need to do so this year. But, there are a few on my list:

Ellen McLain (the voice of GLaDOS!! )
Adam Baldwin (Jayne from Firefly. For some reason, I never met him, yet.)
Gillian Anderson (X-Files, duh! Yes, she re-confirmed her appearance.)

Maybe Adam West and Burt Ward, if the line for them isn't too long.

I'm going to my FIRST Dragon*Con. Mark Edward has something like 5 appearances in the Skept Track. Super excited.

Can someone add me to the list!

I'm not all that active on the forums here (moreso in skepticsrock irc channel), but in any event, I'll be at the Star Party and DragonCon. I went last year and had a great time, but didn't actually spend all that much time in the Skeptics Track. I'm planning on being in there more this year, I think.

FWIW: I've just been told that in addition to one panel I am on, I will be speaking at 1pm on Monday at Dragon*Con Skeptrack.

See you there!
