T S Eliot
Does anyone know? When T S Eliot settled in England, did he take British citizenship? Or, did he remain an American living in England?
Thank you. |

You could ask his wife.
Oh, sorry. You should have asked sooner. (Her obituary appears today.) |

He's a bit of an odd case. He was born in St. Louis, but considered himself an Anglican, which explains why he's included in both American and British anthologies.
As for Modernists I prefer Wallace Stevens, but Four Quartets is certainly a masterpiece and Prufrock is laborious drivel. |

I largely agree, although Eliot was my gateway drug for modern poetry. Like a lot of poncy teens, I loved 'Prufrock' because I imagined it was about me. I still like it now, when I've realised that the narrator is, I think, meant to invite contempt rather than sympathy.
