I love the statements that Assinge's charecter and past should be off topic in considering his fitness for office....
And he sails to an easy defeat!

626 votes for him in Lalor seems a little shy of their expectations voiced in this Wikiparty tweet
Huge primary vote for WikiLeaks Party likely to exceed 80,000 votes [1] in NSW, Vic & WA

I'm stunned the celebrity and popularity of thegreatassange didn't translate into substantial numbers, if not a win. Wikileaks is trying to spin this as a moral victory...but I see it as a humiliating defeat.

Again, it seems that Assange ignores the fact that no means no...

Errr...am I reading this correctly?

It seems that about six politicians from completely wacky parties have been elected. But not Assange. These are:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...Australia.html

One of them, the candidate of the Australian Motoring Enthusiasts' Party, is a Truther it seems.

Here's another one:

Quote:
Wayne Dropulich, Australian Sports Party

A former member of Australia's gridiron – or American football – team, Dropulich, a civil engineer, said he and some friends came up with the idea for the party several months ago. His party's slogan was: "Are you more interested in sports than politics?"

Just shows that the Australian voter isn't as stupid as you might think and knows a real crank when they see one.

No, it proves that Australians are mindless sheeple brainwashed into thinking that Julian Assange is not the legendary superhero Julian Assange says he is.

Assange didn't get in on the preference swap deal with the loonie parties otherwise he may have got in instead of the libertarian nutjob.

Plus Assange should have changed his name to Motherhood Applepie Assange and things would have been better for him...

Its not true that Australian are mindless sheep.....well, ok...on reflection.... This senate election result is not good evidence against the proposition.

Had Assange taken my advice, and appointed his compatriot Israel Shamir campaign consultant, things might have gone a whole lot better. Dance with the one who brought you.

Neo-Nazi Israel Shamir involved with Julian Assange and Wikileaks? Impossible!

Quote:
The role of Shamir in Wikileaks, as well as his bizarre views, began to get noticed in late 2010, with an expose in Reason that asked just what was going on here, quoting Shamir as calling Jews “a virus in human form” and boasting of his Holocaust denial. Importantly, that piece had an admission by Kristinn Hrafnsson, Wikileaks spokesman, when asked directly about the group’s links with Shamir: ”Yes. Yes, he is associated with us.”
Or not.

Why did you post that here? The election was months ago and Assange barely got any votes.

Because much earlier in this thread my assertion that a troubling relationship existed between Assange (and wikileaks) and Shamir existed was aggressively dismissed by commentators who seemed pleased by his campaign, because of a lack of evidence; despite the fact that I supplied more than enough convincing circumstantial material. One poster even questioned whether Shamir was really a racist scumbag. I recently came across this statement from Wikileaks spokesman confirming my assertion, and wanted to post that. I should have quoted one of the previous posts demanding proof; I apologize for not doing so.
