Yes, but the two are rather tightly intertwined in the history of the USA, I fear.

Back on topic. Elsewhere tyranny has been discussed. BStrong has posted some supposed examples of citizens resisting tyranny. Post 989 in Gun Owners keeping it classy is about this incident

But what quote does not show is who exactly stood up to the local tyranny of corrupt government and police

"Opposition veterans responded by arming themselves and marching there. Some of them had raided the National Guard Armory, obtaining arms and ammunition.[5] Estimates of the number of veterans besieging the jail vary from several hundred[5] to as high as 2,000."

It was a group of army veterans, organised, just returned from WWII who did the necessary. So it was the government and police vs citizens and importantly the military.

Further evidence armed citizens on their own have no real effect on defeating tyranny.
