I completely agree with you, and I think any rational person would. Yep, I've heard it argued that generation really didn't mean "generation" the way we normally define it, but is a mistranslation of something different that somehow could include all generations up to and beyond the present time.

I don't know, I think it lends the speaker a certain amount of character if they have an accent. It would be boring if everyone spoke the same, don't you think?

Then left for about 6 years, until being called up for the Cuban Missile Crisis Draft. Had to go to Bowling Greeen VA, where I'd gone to high school, and registered..
And could not understand what the people there were saying!
Really awful version of the "southern drawl".
