Why women will vote for Romney according to National Review's Kevin D. Williamson

Wow:

Quote:
It is a curious scientific fact (explained in evolutionary biology by the Trivers-Willard hypothesis — Willard, notice) that high-status animals tend to have more male offspring than female offspring, which holds true across many species, from red deer to mink to Homo sap. The offspring of rich families are statistically biased in favor of sons — the children of the general population are 51 percent male and 49 percent female, but the children of the Forbes billionaire list are 60 percent male. Have a gander at that Romney family picture: five sons, zero daughters. Romney has 18 grandchildren, and they exceed a 2:1 ratio of grandsons to granddaughters (13:5). When they go to church at their summer-vacation home, the Romney clan makes up a third of the congregation. He is basically a tribal chieftain.

Professor Obama? Two daughters. May as well give the guy a cardigan. And fallopian tubes.

From an evolutionary point of view, Mitt Romney should get 100 percent of the female vote. All of it. He should get Michelle Obama’s vote. You can insert your own Mormon polygamy joke here, but the ladies do tend to flock to successful executives and entrepreneurs. Saleh al-Rajhi, billionaire banker, left behind 61 children when he cashed out last year. We don’t do harems here, of course, but Romney is exactly the kind of guy who in another time and place would have the option of maintaining one. He’s a boss. Given that we are no longer roaming the veldt for the most part, money is a reasonable stand-in for social status. Romney’s net worth is more than that of the last eight U.S. presidents combined. He set up a trust for his grandkids and kicked in about seven times Barack Obama’s net worth, which at $11.8 million is not inconsiderable but probably less than Romney’s tax bill in a good year. If he hadn’t given away so much money to his church, charities, and grandkids, Mitt Romney would have more money than Jay-Z.

It is time for Mitt Romney to get in touch with his inner rich guy.
Then he goes on to suggest that Romney should start living large and acting like he's rich instead of pretending to be a normal guy with a normal lifestyle.
He even mentions Trump as a role model!

If we really are going to go with the gonad angle, then my biological imperative would have to vote for Obama.

When was National Review bought up by The Onion? Seriously, I read the whole thing and didn't see the humor. I think this clod means every word of it.

Curious about the scientific facts in the opening of the OP. I looked up Saleh al-Rajhi on wiki. 61 children, 39 daughters and only 22 sons. They need a better example.

Otherwise, is it true that the more successful men have more male offspring? Whats the science? Probably "More successful men have mates with the different chemistry that causes more male offspring." Or maybe epigenetics, but of which parent?

But re: elections, my own theory is the man with the most sex appeal wins. Look back at the last 52 years, since television. Now compare Romney with Rodney Allen Rippy.

If we're going with the most sex appeal, Obama would win hands down. Romney has sort of a creepy old guy vibe about him.

I always let my ovaries decide who to vote for. Of course, I'm starting to through menopause, so they are alternating between making my political decisions and telling me that it's too ******* hot in here.

I called Obama RAR because he looks like a cute child.

How did you miss that thought, especially after me subsequent post? Or do you post without reading the whole thread?

I know exactly what you were saying. I was implying you were doing so because its uncomfortable for you to think of him as a man. "Oooooh! He's so cute! " instead of "Damn! Momma bear wants a piece of that!"

I then posted a video of Big Jim Slade to further mock your theory & comments. I'll give you some time to figure out what mocking was implied by said vid, but if you need me to i can hold your hand & walk you through that also.

Sorry about not watching videos. If I wanted to watch TV I wouldn't be on the computer.

But I'll ask the next women I meet whether they think he's cute, or sexy. child, or MAN.

Well, it would seem that he's provided us with a falsifiable hypothesis, at least. If 100 per cent of women don't vote for Romney and if some women, including Michelle Obama, vote for Romney then the thesis is falsified.

I remember that someone was recently talking about how voters always vote for the tallest candidate in a US presidential election but that didn't really account for the fact that something like 46 per cent of voters ended up voting McCain last election. Did they not realize that Obama was taller or did they vote with other criteria other than the candidates' height in mind?

I think that's a ridiculous hypothesis. Prior to television, how many people even had a reasonable chance of guessing which candidate was taller? It's not as though they were likely to meet either candidate, much less both of them standing side by side.

Even before television candidates toured the country and gave campaign speeches. People would gather in the town square, or wherever it was to see the candidate. The newspapers would carry photos, or drawings and physical descriptions of the major candidates.

Did the newspapers list their height?

I happen to have seen Carter, Reagan, and Nixon as candidates. I couldn't begin to guess which of them is taller. I haven't seen any other Presidential candidates in person.

I'm sure there are people who do somehow base their vote on height, just as some choose one candidate over another just because they like the sound of his name. I can't believe, though, that there are enough of them to consistently tip elections.

John Kerry was taller than G.W. Bush. I don't doubt that being taller helps, but it's clearly not a decisive factor.

Why guess?

I don't own a cell phone either.
