re: Yahweh's power.

I was raised a Jew.

In the Passover story, God sends the angel of death to help him kill Egyptian first born. That angel needs guidance, so Jews have to mark their portals with lamb's blood so the angel of death knows which homes to "pass over" on the way to murder Egyptian children.

Even as an early teen, that story was so repulsive and illogical that it was probably the first thing to lead me to not believe in that particular God.

Anyway, I rarely engage believers unless they seem to be seeking meaningful debate. One of Karen's friends once pointed at a full moon and asked, "How can anyone look at that and not see the glory of God?". I chose not to engage, but in another setting I might ask, "Is that a real question? Because I can answer it if you're looking for a real discussion".

Each situation is different.

Which came first according to Genesis, man or animals?

I recall two conflicting chronologies.

Maybe not; you appear to expect answers when you ask them.

Hmm. The OP is asking for a coping mechanism as religion didn't work and not a discussion of biblical accuracy. Sorry for my part in that!

Channel the good and block out the bad, that's my advice.

Keep trying. Someday you'll have a question that needs an answer. Maybe.

So I don't agree that any particular elements in Genesis 1 have to be repeated in Genesis 2. Genesis 1 starts with the formless earth and takes us through the creation week. Genesis 2 starts with the condition of earth before the creation of man and takes us through man's time in Eden.
To be fair, there's a little bit about woman in there too.

Yes, man's time in the garden includes at least a man and a woman, arguably more.

And a talking snake, and a God who left two naked teenagers who didn't know right from wrong alone with a very dangerous plant.

Why do you figure teenagers?

Were they toddlers? Were they elderly? How long had they lived before they ran into God's little trap?

When you dick with the space-time continuum you get some interesting results.

So the only thing you find questionable is "teenagers"? The talking snake seems OK by you?

The talking snake is in Genesis chapter 3. The man and woman being teenagers isn't.

So were they created middle aged? You haven't told us how long they lived in the Garden before God's trap got them booted.
